Peer review: The jury duty of science.

In conclusion, the efforts of this editorial team to maintain a robust reviewer pool by inspiring, rewarding, training, and growing diversity cannot be the only efforts in this area. Those who “decline” jury duty may experience punitive consequences; however, there are no direct consequences for a qualified professional who declines to review, even routinely. Ultimately, the scientific community suffers, with a slower process that can then deteriorate. As a collective of professionals who value the contributions of science, we must all work to protect and grow participation in reviewing. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)
