Is it feasible to treat painful hand osteoarthritis with menopausal hormonal treatment? Results from a randomised controlled trial (the HOPE-e study)

Background: Hand osteoarthritis (OA) is more common in females and relative risk increases around the menopause, implicating sex hormone deficiency. We ran a feasibility randomised controlled trial (RCT) of a form of MHT (conjugated estrogens (CE)-bazedoxifene) in post-menopausal women with painful hand OA.
