The varied genetic impact of medium-term anterior cruciate ligament injury on articular cartilage and synovium

Purpose: Alterations in gene expression of articular cartilage and  synovium are one of the first detectable markers of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) following injury. However, little is known about the gene expression relationship between these two tissues several months into disease progression. The purpose of this study was to gauge the extent to whic h anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) transection induces different transcriptomic changes in synovium compared to articular cartilage 52 weeks following injury.
