A classification system of joint-salvage tumor resection in osteosarcoma of the knee: A retrospective cohort study

Joint-preserving and intra-articular tumor resection are two options for juxta-articular osteosarcoma of the knee [1,2]. While intra-articular resection offers a safe surgical margin at the joint end, subsequent endoprosthetic reconstruction presents complications resulting in survival rate of endoprosthesis ranging from 50 to 70  % [3–6]. Meanwhile, these procedures not only excise the joint end of the affected limb, but also sacrifice the other joint side of the knee, which disturbs skeletal growth and presents limb discrepancy in children [7,8].
