717 Comparative lipidomics profiling of epidermal triglycerides and phospholipids in borage oil vs safflower oil fed guinea pigs

Triglyceride (TG) and phospholipid (PL) metabolism is related to the synthesis of ceramide (Cer), the major lipid class maintaining epidermal barrier. Prompted by the increased Cer synthesis with dietary borage oil [BO: 40.9% linoleic acid (LA) and 24.0% g-linolenic acid (GLA)] and safflower oil [SO: 75.4% LA] in essential fatty acid deficiency (EFAD), we compared the effect of BO and SO on epidermal TG/PL profiling by lipidomic and heatmap analyses. EFAD was induced in guinea pigs by a hydrogenated coconut oil (HCO) diet for 8 weeks, followed by diets of either BO (group HCO+BO) or SO (group HCO+SO) for 2 weeks.
