Effect size estimates of risk factors for post-intensive care syndrome-family: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Families of patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU) often experience anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) during patients ’ ICU stay and post-discharge.1–4 Moreover, families of people who die in the ICU experience a higher risk of developing prolonged grief disorder (PGD) and comorbid symptoms.5–7 The various mental health-related symptoms experienced by the families of ICU patients are termed “post-intensive care syndrome-family” (PICS-F), which comprises anxiety, depression, PTSD, and PGD.
