Anxiety Disorders and Their Treatment in Youth: A New Era

In the decade since pediatric anxiety disorders were last reviewed in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics of North America, our field has seen tremendous advances. We re-classified the anxiety disorders in DSM-5, enhanced our understanding of the epidemiology neurobiology anxiety disorders. The evidence for both psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacologic treatment has been buttressed by dozens of additional trials. Beyond this, we have an evolving understanding of the morbidity of anxiety disorders and their role as substrates for the emergence of other disorders.
