Harmonization of pain scores: comment on Osteoarthritis and Cartilage 2023;31(1):83 –95
In the January 2023 issue of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, Georgopoulos et al. published an interesting review article on the harmonization of pain scores(1). The authors converted different patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) of pain to a single harmonized 0 –100 scale, and used the patient acceptable symptom state (PASS) threshold as a reference point. However, because the included studies investigated different patient groups and used different definitions of PASS, we argue that the PASS threshold was a moving target.
