Outcomes after implementing a heart failure diuretic pathway in an emergency department setting

The emergency department (ED) serves as the entry point to the hospital for most patients with heart failure (HF).1 National guidelines developed jointly by the American College of Cardiology Foundation (ACCF) and American Heart Association (AHA) in 2013,2 a HF update in 20223 and a consensus document from the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM)4 can be used as a template for optimizing emergency medical HF care, as treatment recommendations were based on research evidence of reduced morbidity (hospitalization) and mortality outcomes.
