A 50-Year-Old Man with an Ulcer of the Buccal Mucosa

A 50-year-old Brazilian man presented to the emergency department with two painful ulcers of the right buccal mucosa. He first noticed these lesions 3 months earlier, after the extraction of adjacent maxillary teeth. Later, the patient returned to the outside provider for follow up due to increased pain and lesion size. The patient was referred to an outside oral and maxillofacial surgeon for further evaluation, who then initiated referral to our academic center. In addition to the oral mucosal lesions noted, the patient reported unintentional weight loss of 15 pounds.
