Rationale: Dysgerminoma is an extraordinarily rare neoplasm arising from the malignant germ cells of the ovary. Early antenatal diagnosis and proper management of the neoplasm to improve maternal-neonatal results are the considerable challenges facing the gyne-oncologist. We summarize the clinical features and discuss treatment strategies of the ovary dysgerminoma (OD). Besides, we also review the literature on OD in PubMed, Web of Science Core Collection, Library of Congress, and LISTA from 1939 to 2019 to evaluate its clinical characteristics, feto-maternal compromise, management, and fertility outcome. Patient concer...

AbstractGastrointestinal tract lesions are major causes of acute abdominal pain. A rapid, accurate, and reliable diagnosis is required to manage patients. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a nonionizing modality that is beneficial for pregnant women, children, and young adults who are sensitive to ionizing radiation. For patients with renal impairment who are not accurately diagnosed with noncontrast computed tomography, noncontrast MRI can serve as an alternative diagnostic modality. MRI protocols used for acute abdominal pain are supposed to be optimized and prioritized to shorten scanning times. Single-shot T2-weighte...

(University of Arizona Health Sciences) When people think of opioid addiction, they don't think of pregnant women. Opioid addiction during pregnancy, however, increased 500% in the past 15 years. Alicia Allen, PhD, MPH, a University of Arizona assistant professor affiliated with the Comprehensive Pain and Addiction Center, seeks to understand the relationship between postpartum hormones and opioid relapse to support women in recovery. For that, Dr. Allen recently won a five-year, $2.3 million National Institutes of Health New Innovator Award.

Discussion Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections are common with an estimated 50% of the US population being infected by age 30, and with latent infection harboring in the trigeminal nerve in 100% of people by age 60 years. HSV infections can cause a vesicular or pustular skin rash that is painful, burning or pruritic and also flu-like symptoms with fever, chills, headache, and fatigue. HSV can also be asymptomatic. To laymen, herpes simplex viruses cause “cold sores,” but to health care personnel, herpes causes many systemic infections including eczema herpeticum, folliculitis, herpes gladiatorum, whitlow, e...

Conclusions: Our results are consistent with the hypothesis that opioid exposure while trying to conceive may be harmful, even among healthy, non-opioid-dependent women. Possible risks to fecundability and pregnancy viability are relevant to patients and providers when evaluating pain management approaches.

CONCLUSION: Results found that kinesiophobia at late pregnancy negatively influenced depressive symptoms at 1 month after delivery, suggesting that approaches to treat kinesiophobia at late pregnancymight reduce the risk of onset of postpartum depressive symptoms. PMID: 32995108 [PubMed]

Objectives: Since the 1970 ’s, the General Social Survey (GSS) has assessed US adults’ abortion attitudes via seven items examining specific scenarios (eg, rape, financial reasons, any reason). These data indicate general support for abortion and suggest attitudes have remained relatively stable. However, these items do n ot account for gestational age of the pregnancy. Given the increase in legislation restricting abortion based on gestational age (eg, six-weeks) and fetal development (eg, fetal pain), we re-assessed the GSS items, adding both gestational age and specific fetal development markers that are oft...
