Proliferative Retinopathy in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia & Diabetes: A “double whammy”

We are delighted to have Drs. Kumawat and Chawla's valuable feedback on our review 1 of the ophthalmic manifestations of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). The CML ocular manifestations may result directly from metastatic leukemic infiltrates (which may affect the choroid and would be difficult to detect clinically and may present with a serous or exudative retinal detachment) 2 or as a result of the associated leukocytosis, anemia, thrombocytopenia, hyperviscosity syndrome, and luekoembolization, and It did reveal that posterior segment vasculopathy owing to CML is more prevalent than direct leukemic infiltration.
