A literature review of carpal tunnel syndrome and its association with body mass index, wrist ratio, wrist to palm ratio, and shape index

Entrapment neuropathies are considered among the most commonly reported mononeuropathies, where a nerve is damaged at the passage site through narrow, confined spaces.1,2 Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is one of the most common tubular neuropathies in the upper extremity musculoskeletal system and a cause of hand pain and dysfunction.3-5 CTS is caused by compression of the median nerve (MN) at the wrist passing through a narrow osteofibrous canal known as the carpal tunnel. The MN runs through several hard tissues inside the canal: the wrist bones, transverse carpal ligament, and the nine digital flexor tendons.
