Updated Medicare and Medicaid Drug Spending Data Released
On November 15, 2016, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released updated Medicare and Medicaid drug spending data, to include information for calendar year (CY) 2015 through its online interactive dashboards for Medicare and Medicaid. The inclusion of the Medicaid drug spending data on the public dashboard is new this year, as is the addition of high-level (aggregated) Medicare drug rebate data.

Shire's B.E.D. symptom checklist, IMHO, is a perfect aid for people who wish to abuse a dangerous Schedule II controlled stimulant. According to my more or less truthful answers to the screener, I may suffer from B.E.D. and be able to convince my doc to prescribe me Vyvanse. I suggested that Shire remove this tool from its website to prevent possible abuse of this medication ("How Virtually Anyone Can Get an Rx for Amphetamine... In this study, about 5% of patients given any dosage of Vyvanse had to discontinue its use because of adverse effects. 3/196 patients initially randomized to Vyvanse had serious adverse effects, and one patient died, apparently of an amphetamine overdose. Oddly, the article declared that the one death, due to methamphetamine overdose, was thought by a study investigator not to be related to treatment with another amphetamine, lisdexamfetamine. Shire Corporate Integrity Agreement: New Payment Disclosure Requirements
We recently wrote about Shire’s $56.5 million settlement to resolve False Claims Act allegations involving the company’s ADHD drugs Adderall XR and Vyvanse. Shire agreed to a Corporate Integrity Agreement (CIA) with HHS-OIG in exchange for avoiding exclusion from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, or other Federal health care programs.
