Opioid Maker Charged With Fraud In Marketing Drug As Less Prone To Abuse British drug maker Indivior faces felony charges after allegedly trying to falsely convince doctors that its opioid products were safer than cheaper generic alternatives. www.npr.org "Prosecutors now say the company knew the dissolvable film version of Suboxone was potentially more dangerous, more susceptible to abuse, and included a higher risk that children might be exposed to the drug. The firm also developed a program that allegedly connected opioid-dependent patients...

Moonlighting for FM residents? where to look?
I've been looking for Moonlighting opportunities without much success. I'm a 3rd year FM resident. I have an independent license in PA, my own DEA license with Buprenorphine waiver, but am having no luck. Local Urgent cares want board eligible residency grads. or full time. Local suboxone clinics that have offered moonlighting opportunities are having trouble credentialling me, as the insurance companies won't reimburse for non-graduate, non-board eligible physicians... Local ER's that... Moonlighting for FM residents? where to look? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Suboxone and Addiction
Throwaway for obvious reasons. 25 y/o MS2. I’ve been prescribed suboxone for the last 8 years after struggling with pain and painkillers through my teens. Heavily addicted, but well-managed with suboxone. I’ve come off it twice but always went back on for fear of relapse. Never “actually” relapsed because of the safety net. Going into clinicals and residency, I’m extremely worried about how this will effect my career. Literally no one can give me a straight answer, even my psychiatrist who... Prescription heroin
Was listening to NPR on the way home today, interview of a journalist for vox who claims prescribing heroin TID on taxpayer dollars to curb the opioid epidemic has worked well on a small scale in one Vancouver clinic and advocated attempting this in the US. Sounded ridiculous hearing this but the online articles are there. Also had made multiple unsubstantiated statements such as placing patients on methadone or suboxone reduced the risk of death by more than 50% compared to other opiates.... Buprenorphine: A Reality Check
The following excellent two article series published in 2013 give an in-depth view of the drug culture using Suboxone/buprenorphine, along with a history of the development of the drug. It is an eye opening account that shows the drug is approximately 1/6 as deadly as methadone, and that the death rate is not zero from buprenorphine. Of those dying from buprenorphine, approximately half have other drugs on board, 20% are suicides, and 15% are NAS babies.... Buprenorphine: A Reality Check (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Suboxone via telemedicine in California
Got offered a locums gig doing this part time. I have a full CA license. While telemedicine is permitted in CA, I cannot find any guidelines permitting or denying suboxone via telemedicine. Any insight? I assume there will be medical ancillary staff onsite at this clinic. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Gabapentin Abuse?
New on the streets: Drug for nerve pain boosts high for opioid abusers "Linda Holley, a clinical supervisor at an Athens outpatient program run by the Health Recovery Services, said she suspects at least half of her clients on Suboxone treatment abuse gabapentin. But the center can’t afford to regularly test every participant." (Source: Student Doctor Network)

AAMC Guide Questions P/S #14
This question is driving me crazy. If their supposed answer is correct, then why do people take suboxone?????? This is from the AAMC Official guide questions, the Psych/Soc section. Question 14 If heroin-dependent rats were injected with naloxone, the naloxone would: A. Reduce the reinforcing effects of heroin. This is incorrect because an endorphin antagonist will increase the reinforcing effects of heroin, not decrease these effects. B.... AAMC Guide Questions P/S #14 (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Suboxone Overdose and Treatment
23-year-old male with history of polysubstance abuse, particularly benzodiazepines, heroin and cocaine. Mother brought patient into the ED and patient collapsed in ED waiting room. He was administered 2mg IVP Narcan x2 which made him arouse. Patient was in ED room where he was being monitored by security, he asked to use the commode where the security gave him privacy. During this moment of privacy, he pulled out a balloon from his rectum which he admitted to being "2 bundles of suboxone"... Suboxone Overdose and Treatment (Source: Student Doctor Network)

stimulant treatment with suboxone patients
Greetings forum, I just started a new gig at a community health center (FQHC) and I have inherited a number of suboxone patients on stimulants for adhd (oftentimes patients who have started suboxone, remained clean/engaged with tx, and then dxd with adhd). many seem to be doing fairly well. obviously pill counts and UDS's are employed. would be great to hear from any of you who have experience with such patients. any thoughts? I struggle with the fact that a dx of adhd was made while... stimulant treatment with suboxone patients (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CIII Filling (Specifically Suboxone)
A patient on Suboxone, prescribed by a Pain Management Specialist with a Buprenorphine Waiver, who doesnt fall into the normal box and has a complex medical history, meaning quitting all other substances with dependency potential is not an option, has landed in a difficult situation. The MD was prescribing Suboxone and Percocet (Yes I know, that is counterintuitive, but that's not the focus of this question). Other MDs have been prescribing Phenobarbital, Fiorocet, Lunesta, Diastat, all MDs... CIII Filling (Specifically Suboxone) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Suboxone prescribing requirements
A doctor just told me that you do not need provide the special DEA number that starts with a X on certain diagnosis with suboxone; he also said he treats a lot of people with suboxone (over the limit) because of this is this true?
