Characterization of patients with odontogenic necrotizing soft tissue infections in the head and neck area. A retrospective analysis
CONCLUSIONS: More than half of NSTI cases in the head and neck region had an odontogenic origin, and special attention should be paid to infections related to mandibular molars.PMID:37688516 | DOI:10.1080/00016357.2023.2254389

Comparison of sinus tarsi approach versus extensile lateral approach in the management of displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures: A single-center study
CONCLUSION: In DIACFs, STA is considered a safe and effective method for restoring the width, height, and length of the calca-neus and reconstruction of joint alignment and has now become our standard technique for all calcaneal fractures requiring operative treatment.PMID:37681728 | DOI:10.14744/tjtes.2023.13642

Risk indicators associated with peri-implant diseases: a retrospective cross-sectional study of Colombian patients with 1 to 18 years of follow-up
CONCLUSIONS: In this study population, oral hygiene, periodontal status, preoperative alveolar ridge status, implant placement protocol, implant length, and the quality of coronal restoration appear to be robust risk indicators for both PIM and PI. Additionally, the length of follow-up and functional loading time are robust indicators of PI. Furthermore, the potential modifying relationships of age and smoking status with the MD and BL widths of restoration may be crucial for the development of PI.PMID:37681355 | DOI:10.5051/jpis.2300140007

Dual Parallel Intramedullary K-Wires for Arthrodesis of the Finger Distal or Thumb Interphalangeal Joints
CONCLUSIONS: This technique is simple and cost-effective and achieves a good union rate. The advantages include the ability to choose variable K-wire sizes according to the size of the medullary canal and the ease of postoperative care.PMID:37680173 | DOI:10.1111/os.13852

Rural family physician use of point-of-care ultrasonography: experiences of primary care providers in British Columbia, Canada
CONCLUSION: This study has demonstrated the importance of PoCUS in improving patient care and facilitating timely diagnosis and treatment. As the use of PoCUS among FPs is relatively new in Canada, larger infrastructure support such as improving billing structures, long-term subsidies, educational opportunities, and a quality improvement framework is needed to support the use of PoCUS among rural FPs.PMID:37684568 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-023-02128-z

Increased asphericity of the femoral head-neck junction in professional breakers compared to hobby athletes - a retrospective case-control study
CONCLUSION: Breakers have higher AA in cam-type FAI compared to nonprofessional athletes. The corresponding hip pain significantly reduced training hours and caused the end of their breaking career. The potentially high prevalence of FAI in breakers and the corresponding consequences need to be considered early when athletes present with hip pain.PMID:37684261 | DOI:10.1080/00913847.2023.2256210

Selenium-Methionine-Folic Acid Nanoparticles (SeMetFa NPs) and Its In Vivo Efficacy Against Rheumatoid Arthritis
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2023 Sep 8. doi: 10.1007/s12011-023-03840-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSelenium nanoparticles can be beneficial against rheumatoid arthritis, with limitations in dosage formulation due to their toxicity and low bioavailability. In the present study, we investigated the bioavailability and in vivo efficiency of selenium-methionine-folic acid nanoparticles (SeMetFa NPs) in chronic inflammatory arthritis in rats. The purpose of this study was to develop a therapeutic agent that is of low toxicity and readily available for the maintenance of rheumatoid arthritis. SeMetFa NPs were synthesised by a wet c...
