National hospital discharge survey: 2006 annual summary
This report presents 2006 national estimates and selected trend data on the use of nonfederal short-stay hospitals in the United States. Estimates are provided by selected patient and hospital characteristics, diagnoses, and surgical and nonsurgical procedures performed. Estimates of diagnoses and procedures are presented according to the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification codes. Methods-The estimates are based on data collected through the National Hospital Discharge Survey (NHDS). The survey has been conducted annually since 1965. In 2006, data were collected for approximately...

Long-Term Effect of Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion in Treating Patients with Previous Ischemic Stroke on the Disease Recurrence
CONCLUSION: Regarding patients with previous IS who had poor response to thrombolytics and anticoagulants, LAAO could effectively decrease recurrence of IS and incidence of systemic embolism and prolong RFS of patients. LAAO was, therefore, an alternative for patients with high IS recurrence risk.PMID:34691240 | PMC:PMC8528575 | DOI:10.1155/2021/6991002

Parameter estimation for closed-loop lumped parameter models of the systemic circulation using synthetic data
Math Biosci. 2021 Nov 7:108731. doi: 10.1016/j.mbs.2021.108731. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhysics-based models can be applied to describe mechanisms in both health and disease, which has the potential to accelerate the development of personalized medicine. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of personalizing a model of systemic hemodynamics by estimating model parameters. We investigated the feasibility of estimating model parameters for a closed-loop lumped parameter model of the left heart and systemic circulation using the step-wise subset reduction method. This proceeded by first investigating ...
