Insomnia and Cardiovascular Health: Exploring the Link Between Sleep Disorders and Cardiac Arrhythmias
AbstractCardiovascular diseases (CVDs), driven by modern lifestyles, have increased, with atrial fibrillation (AF) being a major concern linked to heart failure and stroke. Insomnia affects a large population, especially younger individuals, males, and menopausal women, decreasing the quality of life and potentially causing autonomic disturbances and cardiac arrhythmias.Purpose of ReviewThis review explores the link between insomnia and cardiac arrhythmias, particularly AF, and its impact on cardiovascular health and emphasizes the need to address insomnia in individuals with cardiac arrhythmias by tailored strategies for ...

The Role of Monocyte to High-density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Ratio in Predicting the Severity of Acute Ischemic Stroke and its Association with the NIHSS
CONCLUSION: In our study, the MHR shows an increased value in patients with AIS, and a linear correlation is found with the NIHSS score. Thus, the method is a pocket-friendly, easily available, and simple-to-use novel inflammatory marker that may predict the severity of a disease.PMID:37651244 | DOI:10.59556/japi.71.0321

Cardiovascular events risk in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases: a prognostic systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Patients with SAD present an increased risk of CV morbidity and mortality, which should be considered when establishing therapeutic strategies. These findings support the role of systemic inflammation in the development of atherosclerosis-driven disease.PMID:37650912 | DOI:10.1007/s00392-023-02291-4

Statin Use in ICH Linked to Lower Risk for Subsequent Stroke Statin Use in ICH Linked to Lower Risk for Subsequent Stroke
Observational data suggest that use of statins after intracerebral hemorrhage is linked to lower risk for recurrent stroke. Researchers call for a randomized trial of statins in these patients.Medscape Medical News

Artificial intelligence-based preventive, personalized and precision medicine for cardiovascular disease/stroke risk assessment in rheumatoid arthritis patients: a narrative review
Rheumatol Int. 2023 Aug 30. doi: 10.1007/s00296-023-05415-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe challenges associated with diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease (CVD)/Stroke in Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) arise from the delayed onset of symptoms. Existing clinical risk scores are inadequate in predicting cardiac events, and conventional risk factors alone do not accurately classify many individuals at risk. Several CVD biomarkers consider the multiple pathways involved in the development of atherosclerosis, which is the primary cause of CVD/Stroke in RA. To enhance the accuracy of CVD/Stroke risk assessment in the RA...

Intracranial haemorrhage in acute myocardial infarction: A rare but dramatic complication
The shift from thrombolysis to primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and the use of multidrug antithrombotic therapy in the management of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have led to both a substantial improvement in outcomes and a reduction in bleeding complications [1,2]. In particular, in AMI, the rate of haemorrhagic stroke, the most dreaded haemorrhagic complication, decreased by 50% from 1998 to 2008 [1]. Despite its low incidence, intracranial haemorrhage (ICH) is often devastating, being associated with severe disability and high mortality rates.

Extracranial Carotid Plaque Calcification and Cerebrovascular Ischemia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The presence of calcification in carotid plaque confers a reduced association with ipsilateral ischemic events, although these results seem to be limited among carotid arteries with higher degrees of stenosis. Adoption of carotid calcification measures in clinical decision-making will require additional studies providing more reproducible and standardized methods of calcium characterization and testing these imaging strategies in prospective studies.PMID:37638399 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.123.042807

Cerebral Microbleed Patterns and Cortical Amyloid- β: The ARIC-PET Study
CONCLUSIONS: In this community-based cohort of nondemented adults, lobar-only pattern of CMBs or superficial siderosis is most strongly associated with brain Aβ, with no elevated risk for a mixed CMB pattern. Further studies are needed to understand differences in CMB patterns and their meaning across subgroups.PMID:37638398 | DOI:10.1161/STROKEAHA.123.042835

Mauvais contr ôle des facteurs de risque cardiovasculaire modifiables chez les patients congolais en phase aiguë et séquellaire d'un accident vasculaire cérébral : Une étude transversale
CONCLUSIONS: This study shows a poor control of modifiable cardiovascular risk factors in patients with very high cardiovascular risk due to stroke. There is a need for an effective program to combat non-communicable diseases in our environment.PMID:37639739 | DOI:10.1016/j.ancard.2023.101634
