Direct Oral Anticoagulants versus Vitamin K Antagonists in Cirrhotic Patients with Atrial Fibrillation: Update of Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
ConclusionDOACs are associated with more favorable safety outcomes and may be a feasible option of oral anticoagulant for individuals with atrial fibrillation and cirrhosis. Pending validation by randomized prospective studies, the findings of this study should be interpreted with caution.

Insulin Regulation of Hepatic Lipid Homeostasis
Compr Physiol. 2023 Jun 26;13(3):4785-4809. doi: 10.1002/cphy.c220015.ABSTRACTThe incidence of obesity, insulin resistance, and type II diabetes (T2DM) continues to rise worldwide. The liver is a central insulin-responsive metabolic organ that governs whole-body metabolic homeostasis. Therefore, defining the mechanisms underlying insulin action in the liver is essential to our understanding of the pathogenesis of insulin resistance. During periods of fasting, the liver catabolizes fatty acids and stored glycogen to meet the metabolic demands of the body. In postprandial conditions, insulin signals to the liver to store exc...

Hepatitis C Infection as a Risk Factor for Hypertension and Cardiovascular Diseases: An EpiTer Multicenter Study
J Clin Med. 2022 Sep 1;11(17):5193. doi: 10.3390/jcm11175193.ABSTRACTHepatitis C infection is one of the main reasons for liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. In recent years, more and more is being heard about extrahepatic manifestations of the hepatitis C infection including its possible influence on the development of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. In the given work, the frequency analysis of the incidence of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases among 2898 HCV-infected patients treated in Poland and the assessment of their relevance to the HCV genotype and the progression of liver fibrosis can be...

Reduction in the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events with the BET protein inhibitor apabetalone in patients with recent acute coronary syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and moderate to high likelihood of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
CONCLUSIONS: Amongst patients with T2DM, recent ACS, and a moderate-to-high likelihood of advanced liver fibrosis, apabetalone was associated with a significantly lower rate of ischemic MACE and HHF and attenuated the increase in hepatic FS over time.PMID:36039183 | PMC:PMC9419281 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajpc.2022.100372

The Footprint of Kynurenine Pathway in Cardiovascular Diseases
Int J Tryptophan Res. 2022 Jun 28;15:11786469221096643. doi: 10.1177/11786469221096643. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTKynurenine pathway is the main route of tryptophan metabolism and produces several metabolites with various biologic properties. It has been uncovered that several cardiovascular diseases are associated with the overactivation of kynurenine pathway and kynurenine and its metabolites have diagnostic and prognostic value in cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, it was found that several kynurenine metabolites can differently affect cardiovascular health. For instance, preclinical studies have shown that kynurenine...

Po-685-06 liver cirrhosis is associated with an increase in bleeding and mortality in patients undergoing left atrial appendage occlusion: insights from a nationwide cohort analysis
Patients with liver cirrhosis are at an increased risk of bleeding secondary to diminished clotting factor synthesis. In patients with both atrial fibrillation (AF) and cirrhosis, there is an additional risk of cardioembolic stroke. Thus, left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) is an attractive therapeutic option. There is limited data available that examine the safety and outcomes of LAAO in patients with cirrhosis.

Efficacy and Safety of Direct Oral Anticoagulants in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation and Liver Disease: a Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that DOACs significantly reduce the risk of ischemic stroke, major bleeding, and ICH, with no significant effect on the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding in AF patients with liver disease compared with warfarin.

Comparison of the Efficacy and Safety of Direct Oral Anticoagulants and Vitamin K Antagonists in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation and Concomitant Liver Cirrhosis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
ConclusionsCompared with warfarin in patients with AF and liver cirrhosis, DOACs appear to be associated with improved efficacy and safety outcomes. Randomized controlled trials are warranted to confirm these findings.

Thrombocytopenia-Related Problems in Patients with Concomitant Atrial Fibrillation Requiring Antithrombotic Prevention: A Retrospective Cohort Study
