Correlation Between Chronic Periodontitis and Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis
Cureus. 2023 Mar 21;15(3):e36476. doi: 10.7759/cureus.36476. eCollection 2023 Mar.ABSTRACTPeriodontal disease is associated with many systemic diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus, stroke, and pulmonary diseases. Interestingly, recent literature suggests that periodontal disease might be a risk factor for various cancers such as lung, colon, oesophageal, head, and neck cancers. However, the precise mechanistic link is lacking. Hence, in this meta-analysis, we aimed to investigate the correlation between periodontal disease and lung cancer in periodontally diseased patients. Data wer...

Utility of atherosclerosis-associated serum antibodies against colony-stimulating factor 2 in predicting the onset of acute ischemic stroke and prognosis of colorectal cancer
CONCLUSION: S-CSF2-Ab was useful for the diagnosis of atherosclerosis-related AIS, AMI, DM, and CKD and could discriminate poor prognosis, especially in p53-Ab-negative CRC.PMID:36844744 | PMC:PMC9954151 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2023.1042272

Heartbeat: knowledge gaps for non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis
Non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE) contributes to adverse outcomes in patients with systemic inflammatory conditions, antiphospholipid syndrome or advanced malignancy (figure 1). Diagnosis is challenging and there is little data to guide prevention of adverse events, particularly stroke. In this issue of Heart, Quintero-Martinez and colleagues1 report the clinical characteristics and outcomes in 48 adults with NBTE identified at the Mayo Clinic over a 7 year period. Most patients (75%) were women with a mean age of 60 years and most cases were associated with malignancy (52%) or a systemic inflammatory disease (3...

Optical Coherence Tomography Evaluation of Carotid Artery Stenosis and Stenting in Patients With Previous Cervical Radiotherapy
CONCLUSION: The morphological features of RICS were heterogeneous, including heterogeneous signal-rich tissue, dissection, and advanced atherosclerosis. Stenting was successful in all 5 patients with severe RICS. One patient, with high rates of tissue protrusion and stent strut malapposition immediately after stenting, received in-stent neointimal hyperplasia at a 6-month follow-up.PMID:35573285 | PMC:PMC9095735 | DOI:10.3389/fnins.2022.861511
