Developing a culturally tailored stroke prevention walking programme for Korean immigrant seniors: a focus group study
ConclusionsKorean immigrant seniors believe strongly that imbalance is a primary cause of stroke. Restoring balance as a way to prevent stroke is culturally special among Koreans and provides a conceptual base in culturally tailoring our stroke prevention walking intervention for Korean immigrant seniors. Implications for practiceA stroke prevention walking programme for Korean immigrant seniors may have greater impact by addressing beliefs about stroke causes and prevention such as physical and psychological imbalances and the importance of maintaining emotional well‐being.

Stroke among African‐Caribbean women: lay beliefs of risks and causes
ConclusionAlternative explanations of the causes of stroke that include witchcraft, or wishing someone wrong suggests a lack of perceived control over stroke. This may suggest a focus on less visible risk factors such as hypertension, familial history or diabetes and will need inclusion in health promotion materials. Lay beliefs such as witchcraft can co‐exist amicably alongside modern medicine, as long as they do not hinder access to medication, treatment or risk factor management of stroke. Relevance to clinical practiceThe results demonstrated that nursing care and health promotion materials should emphasise on obesit...

The Experiences of Couples Affected by Stroke and Nurses Managing Patient Rehabilitation: A Descriptive Study in Singapore
Conclusions/Implications for Practice The meaning of recovery differs between patients and their informal and formal care providers. This issue should be explored in patient–provider conversations, as these conversations highlight the values and preferences that affect the stroke recovery trajectory. Enhancing shared decision making by patients, spousal caregivers, and healthcare providers during the stroke trajectory may promote the alignment of values that are critical to the stroke recovery experience. Predictive Model for Quality of Life in Patients 1 Year After First Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: When predicting quality of life in a patient 1 year after a stroke, it is important to consider variables such as type D personality, age, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score, social support, the modified Rankin Scale score, and anxiety at the time of the first stroke. Interventions to improve the quality of life of patients with stroke should consider these factors.PMID:33811204 | DOI:10.1097/JCN.0000000000000814

How to develop a patient and carer advisory group in stroke care research.
CONCLUSION: Stroke patients are likely to be older and have long-term physical disabilities or communication problems that may make their involvement in research more challenging to implement. However, with planning and consideration and the allocation of sufficient time and resources, stroke patients and their carers can be effectively involved, resulting in benefits to the research process and output, and to researchers, patients and carers. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE/RESEARCH: Pay attention to planning and the practical details of involving stroke patients and their carers in research, ensuring that meetings are arranged...
