Hospital Discharge and Readmissions Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic for California Acute Stroke Inpatients
Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the United States, with approximately 795,000 new strokes occurring annually, including acute ischemic stroke (AIS), intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).1 The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted all levels of care for stroke patients, such as delays in initial presentation, reduction in acute therapies, limitations of in-patient resources, delays or lack of initiation of secondary stroke prevention therapy, and limitations in rehabilitation services after hospital discharge.

Stroke nurse navigator utilization reduces unplanned 30-day readmission in stroke patients treated with thrombolysis
ConclusionThe utilization of a stroke nurse navigator team reduced unplanned 30-day readmissions in stroke patients treated with thrombolysis. Further studies are warranted to determine the extent of the results of stroke patients not treated with thrombolysis and to better understand the relationship between resource utilization during the transition period from discharge and quality outcomes in stroke.

Global research trends on COVID-19 and stroke: A bibliometric analysis
ConclusionOur bibliometric analysis provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of research on COVID-19 and stroke and highlights key areas of focus in the field. Optimizing the treatment of COVID-19-infected stroke patients and elucidating the underlying pathogenic mechanisms of COVID-19 and stroke co-morbidity are key areas of future research that will be beneficial in improving the prognosis of stroke patients during the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic.

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on stroke epidemiology and clinical stroke practice in the US
: To examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on stroke, the number of stroke patients, time since last known well (LKW), morbidity, and mortality of stroke patients in Southwest Healthcare System (SHS), California (CA) and the United States (US) were analyzed during 2019 and compared to 2020. Our hypothesis is that there are regional differences in stroke outcome depending on location during the COVID-19 study period which influences stroke epidemiology and clinical stroke practice.

Recent studies have documented a decrease in evaluations of stroke patients during the early weeks of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in the United States (US).1 –4 This phenomenon raises concern that delays in emergent treatment and implementation of secondary stroke prevention measures may contribute to the morbidity and mortality of the pandemic. As a second wave of COVID-19 sweeps through the country, there is an urgent need for public health communica tion that targets populations most likely to delay evaluation for stroke-like symptoms.

Malignant Cerebral Ischemia in A COVID-19 Infected Patient: Case Review and Histopathological Findings
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is responsible for an unprecedented worldwide pandemic that has severely impacted the United States. As the pandemic continues, a growing body of evidence suggests that infected patients may develop significant coagulopathy with resultant thromboembolic complications including deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, and ischemic stroke. However, this data is limited and comes from recent small case series and observational studies on stroke types, mechanisms, and outcomes.

In defense of our patients: indirect negative neurological consequences of sars-cov-2 in the new york epicenter
New York has become the epicenter in the United States for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic with approximately 202,829 infected, 52,697 hospitalized, and 17,055 confirmed deaths as of June 5, 2020.15 The large influx of critically ill patients resulted in widespread policy and practice changes to counter this new resource-limited setting. All elective surgeries were cancelled. Urgent cases required approval and were limited significantly, resulting in primarily emergency cases.
