Stroke affects intestinal immune cell trafficking to the central nervous system
Brain Behav Immun. 2021 May 11:S0889-1591(21)00189-6. doi: 10.1016/j.bbi.2021.05.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStroke is an acute neurological disease with a strong inflammatory component that can be regulated by the intestinal microbiota and intestinal immune cells. Although stroke has been shown to alter immune cell populations in the gut, the dynamics of cell trafficking have not been elucidated. To study the trafficking of gut-derived immune cells after stroke, we used mice expressing the photoconvertible protein Kikume Green-Red, which turns form green to red when exposed to violet light. Mice underwent laparotom...

Comparative evaluation of stroke volume variation measured by pulse wave transit time and arterial pressure wave
CONCLUSION: Since esSVV and flSVV showed significant differences in AUC and cutoff values, the two systems were not comparable in predicting fluid responsiveness. Furthermore, it seems that SVV needs to be personalized to accurately predict fluid responsiveness for each patient.PMID:37483029 | DOI:10.3233/THC-220849

O-051 Retrograde Open Mesenteric Stenting in Mesenteric Ischaemia: Results from an Intestinal Stroke Centre
The objectives of this study were to describe the intra-operative adverse events (IOAEs), and the initial and one year outcomes of ROMS technique using balloon expandable covered stents for AMI in an intestinal stroke centre.

Acute Isolated Mesenteric Artery Dissection: Four-Year Experience from a French Intestinal Stroke Center
CONCLUSION: Although IMAD was associated with a high frequency of AMI, a standardized protocol allowed a low rate of intestinal resection. In types I/II patients, a conservative therapy seems appropriate whereas in type III patients, urgent SMA revascularization should aim to avoid intestinal resection or death..PMID:36075544 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2022.08.032

Dynamic preload indicators decrease when the abdomen is opened
Background: Optimizing cardiac stroke volume during major surgery is of interest to many as a therapeutic target to decrease the incidence of postoperative complications. Because dynamic preload indicators are strongly correlated with stroke volume, it is suggested that these indices can be used for goal directed fluid therapy. However, threshold values of these indicators depend on many factors that are influenced by surgery, including opening of the abdomen. The aim of this study was therefore to assess the effect of opening the abdomen on arterial pressure variations in patients undergoing abdominal surgery. Methods: Bl...
