Neurophysiologic Features Reflecting Brain Injury During Pediatric ECMO Support
ConclusionsIncreased seizure burden and increased interhemispheric differences in both quantitative electroencephalographic amplitude and TCD MCA TIBI scores are independently associated with acute brain injury in children undergoing ECMO support.

Carotid total plaque area as an independent predictor of short-term subclinical polyvascular atherosclerosis progression and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events
CONCLUSION: In patients from 40 to 64 years of age with various cardiovascular risks, among the indicators of the cPB, only an increase in cTPA > 42.0 mm2 was shown to be independently associated with an increase in the relative risk (RR) of progression of subclinical polyvascular atherosclerosis by 2.38 (1.08-5.25) times, as well as with the development of MACCE by 3.10 (1.54-6.26) times.PMID:37655749 | DOI:10.1177/17539447231194861

Cardiovascular and renal health: Preeclampsia as a risk marker
CONCLUSIONS: The implementation of preventive multidisciplinary targeted strategies can help slow down CVD and CKD's natural history in women at risk through lifestyle modifications and adequate blood pressure control. Therefore, we propose a series of recommendations to guide the prediction and prevention of CVD and CKD throughout life of women with a history of PE.PMID:37635012 | DOI:10.1016/j.nefroe.2022.04.009

Ipsilateral and contralateral carotid stenosis contribute to the outcome of reperfusion treatment for ischemic stroke
DiscussionAccording to our findings, ICS and CCS negatively influence AIS patients' outcome treated by interventional therapies. ICS might exert an unfavorable effect both by cerebral hypoperfusion and by continuous microembolization toward ischemic area, while CCS is probable involved in reducing the collateral circles effectiveness. The importance of early carotid stenosis detection and treatment should then be reevaluated not only to manage the prevention approaches but also to obtain insights about post-stroke treatment strategies efficacy.

The Association of Carotid Plaque Size, Carotid Intima-Media Thickness, Resistive Index, and Pulsatility Index With Acute Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: CIMT was significantly thicker among the patients with ischemic stroke compared to the control group. RI in the left CCA was significantly greater among the stroke patients than in the control group. The age of the patient and smoking habit had an association with RI and PI values. Most of the parameters were found to be significant on the left side, suggesting carotid atherosclerosis may not be symmetrical. A large-scale further study is needed to see the association of these variables with ischemic stroke patients.PMID:37546130 | PMC:PMC10401067 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.41384

O-007 Bridging thrombolysis yields diminished benefit among elderly stroke patients treated with endovascular thrombectomy
ConclusionsBridging thrombolysis may be associated with better outcomes in a real-world setting; however, this association is diminished among elderly patients due to higher rates of hemorrhagic complications. Meta-analyses of trial data and future prospective studies are needed to fully elucidate the benefits and risks of bridging thrombolysis in the elderly population.Abstract O-007 Figure 1Disclosures H. P-005 Predictors for large vessel recanalization before stroke thrombectomy
ConclusionsIVT at least 1.5 hours before angiography, site of vascular occlusion, atrial fibrillation, and hyperlipidemia are independent predictors for LVR. The 8-point Recan score proposed in this study may be a valuable tool for predicting LVR before EVT.Abstract P-005 Figure 1Disclosures H. Chen: None. M. Colasurdo: None. C. Schrier: None. M. P-023 Initial experience with transcranial ultrasound through sonolucent cranioplasty after hemicraniectomy for ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke
ConclusionTranscranial ultrasound through large, customized sonolucent cranioplasty is safe and feasible after decompressive hemicraniectomy. This imaging technique may alleviate the cost, transport, and radiation burden of CT in select ICH patients.Abstract P-023 Figure 1Disclosures C. Rossitto: None. H. Tabani: None. A. Reynolds: None. High posterior cerebral artery flow predicts ischemia recurrence in patients with internal carotid artery occlusion
Recurrent stroke is a dreaded complication of symptomatic internal carotid artery occlusion (ICAO). Transcranial Duplex (TCD)-derived increased flow velocity in the ipsilateral posterior cerebral artery (PCA)-P2 segment indicates activated leptomeningeal collateral recruitment and hemodynamic impairment. Leptomeningeal collaterals are pial vascular connections between the anterior and posterior vascular territories. These secondary collateral routes are activated when primary collaterals via the Circle of Willis are insufficient. Our goal was to test the TCD parameter PCA-P2 flow for prediction of ipsilateral ischemia recu...

Effects of adjuvant berberine therapy on acute ischemic stroke: A meta-analysis
Phytother Res. 2023 Jul 8. doi: 10.1002/ptr.7920. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the clinical efficacy of berberine (BBR) in treating acute ischemic stroke (AIS), explore its anti-inflammatory effects, and assess its potential applications for AIS patients. We comprehensively searched nine databases from inception until July 1, 2022, to identify clinical trials investigating the use of BBR in treating AIS. We performed statistical analyses using RevMan5.4 software and focused on primary outcomes such as inflammatory markers as well as secondary outcomes including immune system indica...
