Is carotid screening redundant for patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting?
ConclusionIn screened patients identified to have severe CS, there appears to be a generally low appetite for undertaking carotid intervention internationally either before or concurrently with the coronary artery bypass grafting. Putting this all together, the widespread screening of asymptomatic patients would appear to not be justified.

Coronary revascularization during treatment of severe aortic stenosis: A meta ‐analysis of the complete percutaneous approach (PCI plus TAVR) versus the complete surgical approach (CABG plus SAVR)
ConclusionsWhen comparing the total percutaneous and total surgical treatment, no significant difference in short ‐term safety outcomes or early and late mortality was observed. More evidence is needed to guide the clinical decision.

Outcomes of coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection

On ‐pump beating‐heart coronary artery bypass grafting in high‐risk patients: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionOPBHC is an effective technique to perform surgical revascularization in high ‐risk patients as preventing haemodynamic deterioration and guaranteeing adequate end‐organ perfusion. OPBHC represents an alternative technique to on‐pump and off‐pump CABG, in those cases in which complications deriving from cardioplegic arrest or manipulation of the heart are more likely. For these reasons, OPBHC might be useful in patients with recent myocardial infarction or with left ventricular dysfunction.

Differential myocardial strain in the early postoperative period in patients receiving arterial vs venous bypass grafts: A hypothesis ‐generating study
ConclusionsAfter CABG, LV function quantified through GLS changes both globally and regionally increased after SAG and decreased after MAG. This finding may have important clinical implications in terms of optimizing intraoperative management for patients with CABG and have the potential to guide the improvement of clinical outcomes.

Effects and outcomes of cardiac surgery in patients with cardiometabolic syndrome
ConclusionsPatients with CMS were more likely to present with increased comorbidities. Patients with CMS undergoing CABG were at risk for worse short ‐term secondary postoperative outcomes and reduced long‐term survival. The data supports the need for further investigation for risk reduction surrounding operative revascularization.

Early outcomes following isolated coronary artery bypass surgery: Influence of peripheral artery disease
ConclusionsThe presence of peripheral arterial disease increases the incidence of postoperative stroke, AKD and limb ischemia requiring intervention, independent of patient characteristics, concomitant risk factors, surgical approaches, and techniques. Further larger studies are necessary to confirm our findings.

Concomitant severe carotid and coronary artery diseases: a separate management or concomitant approach
Conclusion: The results from this study favors staged CEA with CABG with lower incidence of postoperative stroke, operative, and 30 ‐day mortality. A larger study, ideally a randomized controlled trial, is required to address the superiority of each technique.

Can red blood cell distribution width predict long ‐term cardiovascular event after off‐pump coronary artery bypass? A retrospective study
ConclusionsAn RDW level greater than 13% in hospital admission is independently associated with an increased incidence of long ‐term MACCE after OPCAB.

Association between surgical volume and clinical outcomes following coronary artery bypass grafting in contemporary practice
ConclusionsIn contemporary practice, in which one ‐third of CABG‐capable hospitals perform <  100 CABG operations annually, a strong relationship is observed between surgical volume and adjusted in‐hospital morbidity, mortality, cost, and 30‐day readmission.

Systematic review and meta ‐analysis of staged vs simultaneous coronary artery bypass grafting surgery and carotid endarterectomy
Conclusion: The results from this study favors staged CEA with CABG with lower incidence of postoperative stroke, operative, and 30 ‐day mortality. A larger study, ideally a randomized controlled trial, is required to address the superiority of each technique.
