Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting and Stroke-Exploratory Analysis of the GOPCABE Trial and Methodological Considerations.
CONCLUSION:  Within recent prospective randomized multicenter trials off-pump CABG did not result in lower stroke rates. The possible intrinsic benefit of off-pump CABG may be offset by the complexity of the operative therapy as well as the multiple pathomechanisms involved in perioperative stroke. Ligation of Left Atrial Appendage during Off-Pump Coronary Surgery.
CONCLUSION:  Epicardial ligation of LAA during OPCAB in patients with AF may reduce the risk of ischemic stroke in long-term follow-up and does not affect the mortality. PMID: 31505691 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Adverse Cerebral Outcomes after Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery-More Than a Decade of Experience in a Single Center.
CONCLUSIONS:  A low incidence rate of adverse cerebral outcomes after CABG in community hospital can be achieved with the use of the suggested surgical intensive care, and anesthetic strategy. Advanced age, congestive heart failure, and prior stroke are associated with adverse outcomes. PMID: 29642244 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Short-term and Long-term Postoperative Safety of Off-Pump versus On-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting for Coronary Heart Disease: A Meta-analysis for Randomized Controlled Trials.
Conclusion Short-term postoperative safety was similar between off-pump and on-pump CABG. A high revascularization rate was the drawback of off-pump CABG for CHD patients in long-term follow-up. PMID: 25803118 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Surgical Repair of Moderate Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation-A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Conclusion Addition of MVR/Re to CABG in patients with moderate ischemic MR did not result in improvement in early or overall mortality, stroke risk, or intermediate markers of LV function when compared with CABG alone. PMID: 28109210 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Preoperative Risk Factors and Early Outcomes of Delirium in Valvular Open-Heart Surgery
CONCLUSION: In valvular open-heart surgery, postoperative delirium is a frequent neurological complication that is associated with other postoperative neurological complications and several, mostly nonmodifiable, preoperative risk factors. Although postoperative delirium was associated with a significantly increased risk of prolonged ICU stay, this did not translate into an increased short-term mortality.PMID:35042244 | DOI:10.1055/s-0041-1740984

CALA: Cumulative Volume of Calcified Lesions of the Aorta in Cardiac Surgery
Thorac Cardiovasc Surg. 2022 Jul 11. doi: 10.1055/s-0042-1748194. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOne of the major key questions raised in this retrospective study was to identify any correlation of atherosclerotic plaque volume of the ascending aorta and aortic arch with adverse events such as postoperative stroke, critical illness polyneuropathy and myopathy, as well as delirium and all-cause in-hospital mortality. In a second phase of this study, we investigated the relationship between atherosclerotic plaque volume and adverse events regarding the construction of proximal anastomosis on coronary artery bypass grafting pr...
