Characteristics and Outcome of Patients with Stroke After Lung Transplant Surgery in the Lung Allocation Score Era
With introduction of lung allocation (LAS) in 2005, increasingly sicker patients are being transplanted every year. The current study was conducted to determine the incidence of stroke early after lung transplantation (LT), describe the recipient characteristics that are independently associated with it and evaluate its impact on 1 year survival.

Ischemic Stroke in a Young Patient Heralding a Left Ventricular Noncompaction Cardiomyopathy
We report the case of a young woman whose ischemic stroke led to the diagnosis of a rare embolic cardiomyopathy, left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy, requiring a heart transplant.Case Rep Neurol 2017;9:204 –209

Laterality of Cerebral Artery Hemodynamics in Continuous-Flow LVAD Patients: A Pilot Study in Relation to Stroke
A predominance of ischemic stroke in the right hemisphere among patients with continuous-flow left ventricular assist device (LVAD) support has been noted. The reasons for this clinical presentation are unknown, though others have hypothesized greater blood flow to the right common carotid artery. Since arterial pulsatility and blood velocity (as a surrogate for flow) have been associated with cerebrovascular complications, we hypothesized that significant differences in the pulsatility and/or Vmax of the left and right middle cerebral artery may be present in LVAD patients.

Increased Aortic Stiffness is Associated with Higher Rates of Stroke, GI-bleeding and Pump Thrombosis in Continuous-Flow Left Ventricular Assist Device Patients
In the general population, increased aortic stiffness (kAo) is associated with risk of cardiovascular events. Continuous-flow left ventricular assist device (CF-LVAD) pts have been reported to have increased kAo. The association between kAo and common adverse events (AEs), including stroke, gastrointestinal bleed (GIB) and pump thrombosis (PT) are unknown in CF-LVAD pts.

Early Elevated Plasma Free Hemoglobin Predicts Occurrence of Thromboembolic Stroke during Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Support
Hemolysis creates a prothrombotic state by platelet activation; however, its impact on thromboembolic (TE) stroke during venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) support is unknown.

Stroke After LVAD: Does Age Matter? A Sex-based Analysis
The risk of stroke in women with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) appears to be higher than men. Some authors suggested that variances in hormonal influences occurring with age might contribute to the increased thrombotic profile potentially acquired by some women.

Long-term outcomes following thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke in patients with a left ventricular assist device: a case series and literature review
ConclusionsEmbolism is a major problem encountered by patients under LVAD support while waiting for an HT. Thrombectomy for AIS associated with LVAD support is a useful and safe treatment modality. It is possible to maintain a reasonable mRS score in patients who are not completely independent.

Increased Risk of Stroke and Death in Ventricular Assist Device Patients Varies by ISHLT Infection Category: An INTERMACS Analysis
Ventricular assist device (VAD) patients experience infections, which increase the risk of stroke and mortality. We aimed to characterize key differences in clinical outcomes for VAD patients based on the ISHLT categorization of infections: VAD-specific (e.g. pump component related), VAD-related (e.g. bloodstream infection, BSI) and non-VAD infections (e.g. pneumonia).

Stroke and death risk in ventricular assist device patients varies by ISHLT infection category: An INTERMACS analysis
Ventricular assist device (VAD) patients often experience infections, which increase the risk of stroke and mortality. Using the definitions of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), we have characterized differences in clinical outcomes for categories of infection: VAD-specific (e.g., pump component related); VAD-related (e.g., bloodstream infection, BSI); and non-VAD infections (e.g., pneumonia).
