Challenges and Opportunities in Stroke Nursing Research: Global Views From a Panel of Nurse Researchers
This article reflects panel insights on challenges and opportunities for nurse-led stroke research. DISCUSSION: The research challenges discussed include nursing independence, the processes of informed consent and randomization process, obtaining adequate independent funding, recruiting research subjects, and working with vulnerable groups. The major opportunities to leverage and improve stroke nursing research include facilitating the nurse investigator role, information digitalization, improving health literacy, and collaboration between nurse researchers. SUMMARY: We are living in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and amb...

Peripheral Electrical Stimulation Paired With Movement-Related Cortical Potentials Improves Isometric Muscle Strength and Voluntary Activation Following Stroke
ConclusionA single session of ePAS can significantly increase isometric muscle strength and VA in people with chronic stroke. The findings confirm that ePAS has a central neuromodulatory mechanism and support further exploration of its potential as an adjunct to stroke rehabilitation. In addition, the findings offer alternative, feasible outcome measures for future research.Clinical trial registrationAustralia New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry ACTRN12617000838314 (www.anzctr.org.au), Universal Trial Number U111111953714.

Iron nanoparticle contrast enhanced microwave imaging for emergent stroke: A pilot study
Publication date: Available online 1 November 2018Source: Journal of Clinical NeuroscienceAuthor(s): Joseph S. Hudson, Timothy K. Chung, Benjamin S. Prout, Yasunori Nagahama, Madhavan L. Raghavan, David M. HasanAbstractEmergent stroke is mostly evaluated using hospital based imaging. Quick imaging allows for rapid administration of IV thrombolysis and outcome improvement. Microwave imaging (MI) is an emerging portable imaging modality. Iron oxide nanoparticles are known to interact with microwave frequency electromagnetic radiation. In this manuscript, we provide proof of concept for a novel iron oxide nanoparticle enhance...
