Thrombosis origin identification of cardioembolism and large artery atherosclerosis by distinct metabolites
CONCLUSIONS: Six metabolites as potential predictors for distinguishing between cerebral thrombi of CE and LAA origin were identified. The results are useful for understanding the pathogenesis and for secondary stroke prevention.PMID:35654581 | DOI:10.1136/neurintsurg-2022-019047

Cardiovascular/Stroke Risk Assessment in Patients with Erectile Dysfunction-A Role of Carotid Wall Arterial Imaging and Plaque Tissue Characterization Using Artificial Intelligence Paradigm: A Narrative Review
Diagnostics (Basel). 2022 May 17;12(5):1249. doi: 10.3390/diagnostics12051249.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: The role of erectile dysfunction (ED) has recently shown an association with the risk of stroke and coronary heart disease (CHD) via the atherosclerotic pathway. Cardiovascular disease (CVD)/stroke risk has been widely understood with the help of carotid artery disease (CTAD), a surrogate biomarker for CHD. The proposed study emphasizes artificial intelligence-based frameworks such as machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) that can accurately predict the severity of CVD/stroke risk using carotid wall arterial imaging in ED ...

Questionnaire-based exposome-wide association studies (ExWAS) reveal expected and novel risk factors associated with cardiovascular outcomes in the Personalized Environment and Genes Study
In conclusion, using statistics and machine learning, these findings identify novel potential risk factors for CVD, enable hypothesis generation, provide insights into the complex relationships between risk factors and CVD, and highlight the importance of considering multiple exposures when examining CVD outcomes.PMID:35605674 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2022.113463

Emerging Feature Extraction Techniques for Machine Learning-Based Classification of Carotid Artery Ultrasound Images
This study presents the extraction of 65 features, which constitute of shape, texture, histogram, correlogram, and morphology features. Principal component analysis (PCA)-based feature selection is performed, and the 22 most significant features, which will improve the classification accuracy, are selected. Naive Bayes algorithm and dynamic learning vector quantization (DLVQ)-based machine learning classifications are performed with the extracted and selected features, and analysis is performed.PMID:35602622 | PMC:PMC9119795 | DOI:10.1155/2022/1847981

Evaluation of Intima-Media Thickness and Arterial Stiffness as Early Ultrasound Biomarkers of Carotid Artery Atherosclerosis
Cardiol Ther. 2022 Apr 1. doi: 10.1007/s40119-022-00261-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCarotid atherosclerosis is a major and potentially preventable cause of ischemic stroke. It begins early in life and progresses silently over the years. Identification of individuals with subclinical atherosclerosis is needed to initiate early aggressive vascular prevention. Although carotid plaque appears to be a powerful predictor of cardiovascular risk, carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and arterial stiffness can be detected at the initial phases and, therefore, they are considered important new biomarkers of carotid atheroscler...
