Effectiveness of Adding Antiplatelets to Oral Anticoagulants in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke with Atrial Fibrillation and Concomitant Large Artery Steno-Occlusion
In conclusion, OAC + AP might increase the risk of 3-month outcome ev ents compared with OAC alone in patients with AIS with AF and concomitant LASO. However, the effect of additional AP to OAC might differ according to LASO type.

Risk of Stroke Outcomes in Atrial Fibrillation Patients Treated with Rivaroxaban and Warfarin
In a previous real-world study, rivaroxaban reduced the risk of stroke overall and severe stroke compared with warfarin in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). The aim of this study was to assess the reproducibility in a different database of our previously observed results (Alberts M, et al. Stroke. 2020;51:549-555) on the risk of severe stroke among NVAF patients in a different population treated with rivaroxaban or warfarin.

Predictors of futile recanalization after endovascular treatment in acute ischemic stroke: a meta-analysis
Conclusion This study identified female sex, comorbidities, admission systolic blood pressure, serum glucose, occlusion site, non-bridging therapy, and post-procedural complication as predictors of futile recanalization, and also confirmed previously reported factors. Further large-scale prospective studies are needed.

Elevated thyroid autoantibodies and intracranial stenosis in stroke at an early age
ConclusionsThyroid autoantibodies may be associated with the presence of intracranial large artery stenosis in young stroke patients, potentially providing insight on immune pathogenesis of intracranial large artery stenosis.

Rate of Antithrombotic Drug use and Clinical Outcomes According to CHADS2 Scores in Patients With an Initial Cardioembolic Stroke who had Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation
This study investigated the relationship between CHADS2 scores and the rate of antithrombotic drug use and clinical outcomes in patients with an initial cardioembolic stroke who had nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF).Methods: In 234 patients (135 men and 99 women; mean age [±SD] 76 ± 11 years) with initial cardiogenic cerebral embolism with NVAF who were admitted to our hospital between April 2007 and March 2011, the CHADS2 score, use of warfarin, and clinical outcomes were retrospectively investigated. Results: CHADS2 scores were as follows: 0 points, n = 21 (9%); 1 point, n = 72 (31%); 2 points, n = 92 (39%); 3 poin...

Risk Factors for Poor Outcome and Mortality at 3 Months after the Ischemic Stroke in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation
Conclusions: Age, gender, and NIHSS score were independently associated with poor outcome for IS or TIA patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation in the early recovery stage.

Indecision in the Clinical Practice of Anticoagulation for Brief Atrial Arrhythmias after Cryptogenic Stroke
Conclusion: Our study demonstrates the differences in anticoagulant prescribing practices between neurologists and cardiologists and the inherent indecision these findings have produced. Further study is needed to better define the risks and benefits associated with anticoagulation of brief episodes of atrial arrhythmias lasting less than 30 seconds in patients with cryptogenic stroke or TIA.

Predictive Factors for Early Clinical Improvement after Intra-arterial Thrombolytic Therapy in Acute Ischemic Stroke
This study aimed to identify clinical and radiological variables that are predictive of early improvement (EI) after IAT in acute ischemic stroke. Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study included 141 consecutive patients who underwent IAT for terminal internal carotid and/or middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusions. EI was defined as a National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score less than 3 or NIHSS score improvement of 8 points or more within 72 hours of IAT. The EI and non-EI groups were compared in terms of clinical and radiological findings before and after IAT.Results: Forty-nine patients sh...

Thrombolytic Outcomes for Acute Ischemic Stroke in Patients with Primary Brain Tumors in the United States (P4.220)
Conclusions: Thrombolytic therapy is an independent predictor of ICH in patients with primary brain tumors. Thrombolysis outcomes are less favorable in malignant brain tumors compared to benign tumors.Disclosure: Dr. Murthy has nothing to disclose. Dr. Moradiya has nothing to disclose. Risk of warfarin-associated intracerebral haemorrhage after ischaemic stroke is low and unchanged during the 2000s
Commentary on: Asberg A, Erisksson M, Henriksson KM, et al.. Warfarin-associated intracerebral hemorrhage after ischemic stroke. Stroke 2014;45:2118–20. Context Since its isolation during the early half of the 20th century from the mouldy hay responsible for ‘sweet clover disease’ in cattle, warfarin has become the most widely used oral anticoagulant.1 Indications include atrial fibrillation (AF), mechanical prosthetic valves and venous thromboembolism treatment.2 Warfarin reduces stroke risk in patients with AF by nearly two-thirds; AF accounts for 20% of ischaemic strokes, which tend to be more severe t...

Circulating Atrial Natriuretic Peptide Genetic Association Study Identifies a Novel Gene Cluster Associated With Stroke in Whites Original Articles
Conclusions— This is the first large-scale genetic association study of circulating NT-proANP levels performed with replication and functional assessment that identified genetic variants in the MTHFR-CLCN6-NPPA-NPPB cluster to be significantly associated with NT-proANP levels. The clinical significance of this variation is related to lower NT-proANP levels, higher blood pressures, and an increased risk of stroke in the general community.

Admission Volume Depletion is Associated with Poor Outcome in Acute Ischemic Stroke (P1.192)
Conclusions: After controlling for NIHSS and age, volume depletion in AIS patients estimated by BUN/SCr ratio was associated with poor discharge outcome, complicated hospital course, increased LOS, and in-hospital mortality. This simple ratio can be used in the early evaluation and treatment of AIS. However, multi-center prospective studies are needed to determine if volume correction is confounding this association.Disclosure: Dr. Shiue has nothing to disclose.
