16834 Risk of hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke subsequent to diagnosis for hidradenitis suppurativa: Real-world data from a large urban Midwestern US patient population
Background: Although hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) has been reported to be associated with cardiovascular events, the risk for stroke has been inconsistently reported. The aim of this study is to determine the incidence of stroke in HS patients from real world data within a large urban midwestern US dermatology patient population.

9798 —Hidradenitis suppurativa is associated with increased odds of stroke, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and PAD: A population-based analysis in the United States
Introduction: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and psoriasis has been linked to cardiovascular disease. There is currently a deficiency in the literature regarding the prevalence of clinically important cardiovascular diseases that arise in patients with HS in a United States population. We sought to determine the odds of stroke, coronary artery disease (CAD), heart failure (HF), and peripheral artery disease (PAD) in patients with HS compared with patients with psoriasis and controls.

The risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and revascularization among patients with psoriasis treated with apremilast compared with biologics and disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs: A cohort study in the US MarketScan database
To the Editor: The cardiovascular safety of apremilast is understudied.1,2 We conducted a study to quantify the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and revascularizations in people with apremilast-treated psoriasis compared with other systemic psoriasis treatments.

Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis: a systematic literature review
Abstract Previous epidemiological studies have demonstrated a high prevalence of cardiovascular (CV) risk factors in psoriasis patients, including metabolic syndrome, cigarette smoking, obesity, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance and dyslipidaemia. An increase in CV morbidity and mortality attributable to psoriasis is still under question. Primary objective: to assess CV morbidity and mortality in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) including stroke, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction (MI) and peripheral artery disease. Secondary objectives: to assess if psoriasis per se is an independent C...

Increased risk of pemphigoid following scabies: a population‐based matched‐cohort study
ConclusionsThis study detected an increased risk for pemphigoid among patients suffering from scabies. Physicians treating elderly patients with a history of scabies should be alert to the development of pemphigoid.

Psoriasis and dyslipidemia: a population‐based study analyzing the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES)
ConclusionBased on the NHANES data 2003–2006 and 2009–2010, psoriasis is not significantly associated with alterations in certain lipid levels. Larger sample sizes may be necessary to detect appreciable differences in the lipid levels between patients with and without psoriasis.

Cardiovascular outcomes and systemic anti‐inflammatory drugs in patients with severe psoriasis: 5‐year follow‐up of a Danish nationwide cohort
ConclusionSystemic anti‐inflammatory treatment with methotrexate was associated with significantly lower rates of cardiovascular events during long‐term follow‐up compared to patients treated with other antipsoriatic therapies. The treatment strategy in patients with severe psoriasis may have an impact on cardiovascular outcomes and randomized trials to evaluate the cardiovascular safety and efficacy of systemic antipsoriatic therapies are called for.

Annular lesions predominantly located around a scar
A 74-year-old woman with a history of hypertension, stroke, and arthrosis presented with skin lesions around a scar on her right knee that appeared a few months after a prosthesis was implanted. The physical examination revealed annular lesions between 5 and 15 mm, with erythematous borders and skin-colored or hypopigmented central areas. They were located around the scar (Fig 1), but there were similar isolated lesions in both axillae (Fig 2) and the left groin. The fungal culture and patch tests were negative.

Early-onset stroke, polyarteritis nodosa (PAN), and livedo racemosa
A previously reported1 25-year-old Caucasian woman was seen in the Dermatology Consult Clinic at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center for livedo racemosa. She was born full term without complications to nonconsanguineous Caucasian parents. At 5 months of age the patient sustained right lacunar thalamic and parietal cerebrovascular accidents (CVA). At that time, she had an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein and was noted to have reticulate erythematous patches on her extremities.
