Reassessing the Stroke Belt: Using Small Area Spatial Statistics to Identify Clusters of High Stroke Mortality in the United States Brief Reports
Conclusions— Clusters of high stroke mortality exist beyond the 8-state stroke belt, and variation exists within the stroke belt. Reconsideration of the stroke belt definition and increased attention to local determinants of health underlying small area regional variability could inform targeted healthcare interventions.

Conclusions— This cross-sectional global sample of patients with recent ischemic stroke shows a substantial frequency of AF-associated stroke throughout the world in proportion to the mean age of the stroke population. Most AF is identified by history or electrocardiography; the yield of conventional short-duration cardiac rhythm monitoring is relatively low. Patients with AF-associated stroke were typically elderly (>75 years old) and more often women.

Risk Stratification for Recurrence and Mortality in Embolic Stroke of Undetermined Source Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The risk of recurrent ischemic stroke/TIA and death in ESUS is reliably stratified by CHADS2 and CHA2DS2-VASc scores. Compared with the low-risk group, patients in the high-risk CHA2DS2-VASc group have much higher risk of ischemic stroke recurrence/TIA and death, approximately 3-fold and 13-fold, respectively.

Stroke Risk and Mortality in Patients With Ventricular Assist Devices Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—The incidence of stroke after VAD implantation was 8.7% per year, and incident stroke was strongly associated with subsequent in-hospital mortality. Notably, ischemic stroke occurred at nearly twice the rate of hemorrhagic stroke. Women seemed to face a higher risk for hemorrhagic stroke than men.

White Matter Microstructure Improves Stroke Risk Prediction in the General Population Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—Future stroke is predicted not only by prevalent vascular lesions but also by subtle alterations in the microstructure of normal-appearing white matter. Inclusion of this effect in risk prediction models produces a significant advantage in stroke prediction compared with the existing Framingham Stroke Risk Profile.

One-Year Incidence, Time Trends, and Predictors of Recurrent Ischemic Stroke in Sweden From 1998 to 2010 Clinical Sciences
Conclusions—The risk of recurrent ischemic stroke decreased from 1998 to 2010. Well-known risk factors for stroke were associated with a higher risk of ischemic stroke recurrence; whereas, secondary preventive medication was associated with a reduced risk, emphasizing the importance of secondary preventive treatment.

Conclusions: Screening for cognitive impairments at 36-48-h post stroke is apparently too early for predicting RTW, and thus cannot be the sole basis for discharge planning after stroke. Inpatient rehabilitation facilities' hospital readmission rates for medicare beneficiaries treated following a stroke.
CONCLUSION: Results suggest it is feasible to assess hospital readmission rates among a stroke-cohort treated in IRFs. Stroke-focused quality measures would be useful to patients in selecting a provider and for providers in evaluating their stroke rehabilitation program outcomes. Physical activity after ischemic stroke and its association with adverse outcomes: A nationwide population-based cohort study.
