The Effect of Metformin on Vitamin B12 Deficiency and Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: T2DM is a significant risk factor to the development of ischemic stroke. We found an association between metformin use and vitamin B12 deficiency and an association between vitamin B12 deficiency and stroke risk in patients with T2DM. Diabetic patients who are taking metformin should monitor their vitamin B12 level.PMID:36841981

Risk factors for perioperative ischemic stroke in cardiac surgery
Conclusion:Risk factors for ischemic stroke were carotid stenosis of 70% or more, diabetes on insulin and peripheral arteriopathy.

Blood test identifies risk of disease linked to stroke and dementia
A UCLA-led study has found that levels of six proteins in the blood can be used to gauge a person ’s risk for cerebral small vessel disease, or CSVD, a brain disease that affects an estimated 11 million older adults in the U.S. CSVD can lead to dementia and stroke, but currently it can only be diagnosed with an MRI scan of the brain.“The hope is that this will spawn a novel diagnostic test that clinicians can start to use as a quantitative measure of brain health in people who are at risk of developing cerebral small vessel disease,” said Dr. Jason Hinman, a UCLA assistant professor of neurology and lead author of t...

P-006 evaluation of baseline ct aspects and admission neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio in perfusion-guided selected ica/mca stroke patients for endovascular reperfusion therapy
ConclusionsIn our cohort, baseline CT ASPECTS inversely correlated with admission NLR in anterior circulation AIS patients who had favorable perfusion imaging profile for IA reperfusion therapy. Additionally, in this subgroup of patients, NLR of 5 or less discriminated favorable from unfavorable ASPECTS.DisclosuresA. Honarmand: None. A. Shaibani: None. F. Syed: None. A. Elmokadem: None. M. Contrast-induced nephropathy: A dilemma between loss of neurons or nephrons in the setting of endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSION: Contrast-induced nephropathy is a relatively common complication after endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke and is associated with worse outcome in patients with this condition. However, there is no increase in the frequency of hemodialysis after the use of iodinated contrast medium. PMID: 31645156 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
