Serum levels of polychlorinated biphenyls and stroke risk among Chinese: a hospital-based case –control study
AbstractPrevious studies have revealed the serious human health risk effects of organic pollutants-polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). However, the roles of circulating PCBs on stroke risk have not been elucidated. The purpose of this study was to examine whether serum PCBs could increase the risk for stroke among Chinese participants. A total of 241 patients with stroke and age- (5-year interval) and gender-matched controls were recruited in Tianjin, China. Concentrations of 17 PCB congeners were measured by using high-resolution gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection. Conditional logistic regression models we...

How John Fetterman Came Out of the Darkness
When he looks back on the past year—a year in which he nearly died, became a U.S. Senator, and nearly died again—it is the debate that John Fetterman identifies as the breaking point. “The debate lit the mitch,” he says, then shakes his head in frustration and tries again. The right word is there in his brain, but he struggles to get it out. “Excuse me, that should be lit the mitch—” He stops and tries again. “Lit the match,” he says finally. Electrocardiogram alterations in non-traumatic brain injury: a systematic review
AbstractThe presence of abnormal electrocardiograms in individuals without known organic heart disease is one of the most common manifestations of cardiac dysfunction occurring during acute non traumatic brain injury. The primary goal of the present review is to provide an overview of the available data and literature regarding the presence of new-onset electrocardiographic (ECG) alterations in acute non traumatic brain injury. The secondary aim is to identify the incidence of ECG alterations and consider the prognostic significance of new-onset ECG changes in this setting. To do so, English language articles from January ...
