Unlucky numbers: Fighting murder convictions that rest on shoddy stats
LEIDEN, THE NETHERLANDS— When a Dutch nurse named Lucia de Berk stood trial for serial murder in 2003, statistician Richard Gill was aware of the case. But he saw no reason to stick his nose into it. De Berk was a pediatric nurse at Juliana Children’s Hospital in The Hague. In 2001, after a baby died while she was on duty, a colleague told superiors that De Berk had been present at a suspiciously high number of deaths and resuscitations. Reduction in Neurological Disease Hospitalization Rate During Covid-19 Pandemic in Abruzzo
ConclusionsDespite the severity of the diseases included in MDC 1 (i.e. ischemic stroke, intracranial hemorrhage), a significant decline was detected in hospital admissions in Abruzzo. Subsequently, a high number of subjects might have not received the necessary health assistance leading to an increase in mortality and morbidity for these severe pathologies. Outcome after acute ischemic stroke treatment during Covid-19 outbreak in South-East Tuscany
CONCLUSION: During the lockdown period due to Covid-19 pandemic, patients with acute ischemic stroke had a worse prognosis.
