Arterial Thrombotic Events in Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients: A Short Review and Meta-Analysis
In conclusion, we found a non-negligible proportion of ATE in patients hospitalized for COVID-19. Our results are similar to those found in hospitalized patients with influenza or with non-COVID viral pneumonia.PMID:35793687 | DOI:10.1055/s-0042-1749661

The Bioactivities of Phycocyanobilin from Spirulina
J Immunol Res. 2022 Jun 11;2022:4008991. doi: 10.1155/2022/4008991. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTPhycocyanobilin (PCB) is a linear open-chain tetrapyrrole chromophore that captures and senses light and a variety of biological activities, such as anti-oxidation, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory. In this paper, the biological activities of PCB are reviewed, and the related mechanism of PCB and its latest application in disease treatment are introduced. PCB can resist oxidation by scavenging free radicals, inhibiting the activity of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase, and delaying the activity of antiox...

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation amid the COVID-19 pandemic: a  nationwide analysis of the first COVID-19 wave in the Netherlands
CONCLUSIONS: During the COVID-19 pandemic, patient characteristics and outcomes after TAVI were not different than before the pandemic. This highlights the fact that TAVI procedures can be safely performed during the COVID-19 pandemic, without an increased risk of complications or mortality.PMID:35648264 | DOI:10.1007/s12471-022-01704-9

Evaluation of antithrombotic use and COVID-19 outcomes in a nationwide atrial fibrillation cohort
Conclusions Pre-existing AT use may be associated with lower odds of COVID-19 death and, while not evidence of causality, provides further incentive to improve AT coverage for eligible individuals with AF.

Preface: COVID-19 Pandemic: Direct and Indirect Cardiovascular Effects
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a dramatic impact on the care of patients with cardiovascular disease throughout the world. COVID-19 has a myriad of direct effects on the myocardium, vasculature and coagulation cascade, related to the pro-inflammatory and prothrombotic effects of the virus, leading to an increase risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, deep venous thrombosis (DVT), and pulmonary emboli within the first 2-4 weeks of contracting the disease. Patients with pre-existent cardiovascular disease and/or cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes are particularly susceptible to suffer complications ...

The Hospitalization Rate of Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis before and during COVID-19 Pandemic Era: A Single-Center Retrospective Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: Since there was a more dismal outcome in COVID-19 associated CVST, a high index of suspicion for CVST among COVID-19 positive is recommended.PMID:35523051 | PMC:PMC8947940 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2022.106468

Links between chronic exposure to outdoor air pollution and cardiovascular diseases: a review
Environ Chem Lett. 2022 Apr 25:1-18. doi: 10.1007/s10311-022-01450-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAcute exposure to air pollution is associated with an increasing risk of death and cardiovascular disorders. Nonetheless, the impact of chronic exposure to air pollution on the circulatory system is still debated. Here, we review the links of chronic exposure to outdoor air pollution with mortality and most common cardiovascular diseases, in particular during the coronavirus disease 2019 event (COVID-19). We found that recent studies provide robust evidence for a causal effect of chronic exposure to air pollution and cardiov...

Clinical Characteristics of Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke Previously Vaccinated Against COVID-19
CONCLUSIONS: There are no significant differences in clinical characteristics of stroke in vaccinated compared to unvaccinated patients. We did not find a connection between vaccination and stroke.PMID:35447380 | PMC:PMC8977441 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2022.106483
