IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 739: Heart Rate Response, Temporal Structure and the Stroke Technique Distribution in Table Tennis National Category Matches
anci The aims of this study were to analyze the heart rate response, the game temporal structure (i.e., mean total time of the matches, real playing time, total rest time) and the stroke technique distribution and to describe its relations in the table tennis national category in simulated competitions. A cohort of 60 table tennis male players (22.06 ± 8.32 years) played 30 simulated matches. The obtained results show a mean heart rate (HRmean) of 142.69 ± 14.10 bpm and a peak heart rate (HRpeak) of 167.26 ± 16.51 bpm. Total strokes were 7505, being the 57.88% and 42.12% for...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 657: Clinical Characteristics and Rehabilitation Strategies for the Stomatognathic System Disturbances in Patients with Stroke: A Systematic Review
Conclusion: The stomatognathic system disturbances are frequently reported among patients with stroke, leading to dysfunction in masticatory performance or swallowing. More studies on interventions for stomatognathic system disturbances are required before conclusions may be drawn. Key Practitioner Message: This systematic review has clinical implications for rehabilitation practices, given that the results may help to develop early assessment and rehabilitation strategies for stomatognathic disturbances in patients with stroke.

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 620: Medication Literacy in Chinese Patients with Stroke and Associated Factors: A Cross-Sectional Study
ifeng Zhang In China, stroke is characterized by high incidence, recurrence, disability, economic burden, and mortality. Regular and effective medication therapy can reduce stroke recurrence. High medication literacy is vital for the success of tertiary prevention measures aimed at preventing recurrence and minimizing disability. A cross-sectional survey using a medication literacy questionnaire was conducted between January and May 2022 on 307 inpatients of a Class III Grade A hospital in Hefei, Anhui Province, China. The demographic and clinical data of the patients were obtained from medical records. The health lite...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 475: The Association between Symptoms of Depression and Anxiety, Quality of Life, and Diabetic Kidney Disease among Chinese Adults: A Cross-Sectional Study
This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of, and risk factors for, depression and anxiety in Chinese DKD patients, and to analyze their impact on the renal function, proteinuria, and QOL. A total of 620 adult patients with Type 2 diabetes and DKD being treated at a tertiary hospital in East China were recruited. Depression and anxiety symptoms were assessed by the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale and Anxiety Scale. Among the DKD participants, 41.3% had symptoms of depression and 45.0% had anxiety symptoms. A poor education, physical inactivity, stroke, low serum albumin, CKD stage 3–4, macroalbuminuria...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 298: Implementing and Evaluating Community Health Worker-Led Cardiovascular Disease Risk Screening Intervention in Sub-Saharan Africa Communities: A Participatory Implementation Research Protocol
Puoane Naomi S. Levitt The increasing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) poses a considerable threat to public health. Community-driven CVD risk screening, referral and follow-up of those at high CVDs risk is essential to supporting early identification, treatment and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction. This protocol describes a multi-country study that aims to implement and evaluate a community health worker (CHW)-led CVD risk screening programme to enhance referral lin...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 153: Evidence of High-Intensity Exercise on Lower Limb Functional Outcomes and Safety in Acute and Subacute Stroke Population: A Systematic Review
This study included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) which compared an intervention group of HIE to a control group of lower intensity exercise, or no intervention. All participants were in the acute (0–3 months) and subacute (3–6 months) stages of stroke recovery. Studies were excluded if they were not RCTs, included participants from a different stage of stroke recovery, or if the intervention did not meet the pre-defined HIE criteria. Overall, seven studies were included that used either high-intensity treadmill walking, stepping, cycling or overground walking exercises compared to either ...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 16925: Effect of Treadmill Training with Visual Biofeedback on Selected Gait Parameters in Subacute Hemiparetic Stroke Patients
Conclusions: The treadmill with visual biofeedback as conventional gait training has resulted in a significant improvement in parameters such as step length, walking speed, static balance, and a reduction in the use of locomotion aids. However, the achieved improvement in gait parameters is still not in line with the physiological norm.

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 16856: Co-Design of an Educational Resource with Female Partners of Male Stroke Survivors to Support Physical Activity Participation
This study aimed to co-design an educational resource prototype to guide and empower female partners in supporting male stroke survivors’ participation in PA. We used a participatory action research (PAR) methodology. Thirteen support persons of male stroke survivors from Canterbury, New Zealand participated in four PAR cycles. The data were collected using individual interviews and focus groups and analyzed inductively using the general inductive approach. Three themes were reflected in the data and informed the prototype content: (1) managing an unwanted and challenging new life, (2) inconsistent access to ...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 16741: 1000 Days: The & ldquo;WeCare Generation & rdquo; Program & mdash; The Ultimate Model for Improving Human Mental Health and Economics: The Study Protocol
Discussion: An overall rate of return on investment (ROI) statistically significant 13.0% per annum with an associated benefit/cost ratio (BCR) of 6.3 is expected as the primary outcome of the “WeCare Generation” program. Our proposed model predicts a new medical paradigm aiming to empower new generations, with a strong return on economy and health.

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 16587: Correlation of Lower Limb Muscle Activity with Knee Joint Kinematics and Kinetics during Badminton Landing Tasks
hn Sukwon Kim A study on a single-leg landing task after an overhead stroke in badminton suggests that poor knee biomechanical indicators may be a risk factor for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. A preventive program targeting neuromuscular control strategies is said to alter the biomechanics of the knee joint and have a beneficial effect on reducing ACL injury. However, the relationship between muscle activity around the knee joint and knee biomechanical risk factors in the badminton landing task is unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between this movement pattern of muscle...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 16329: Swallowing Apraxia Post Ischemic Stroke
aser Al Awaji A 55-year-old male patient with a known medical history of diabetes mellitus type 2 and treated lymphoma was first admitted with a sudden left-sided facial asymmetry and mouth deviation to the left side with no other neurological symptoms. A Computerized Tomography (CT) scan of the brain showed acute infarct and small left basal ganglia old lacunar infarction. He was discharged on a dual antiplatelet. One week later, the patient’s condition had worsened and, therefore, was admitted with an impression of ischemic stroke. A bedside swallowing assessment, VFSS, and FEES study were conducted to ...
