IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 6780: Developing and Planning a Protocol for Implementing Health Promoting Animal Assisted Interventions (AAI) in a Tertiary Health Setting
Simon Koblar The Ottawa Charter identifies that multiple levels of government, non-government, community, and other organizations should work together to facilitate health promotion, including in acute settings such as hospitals. We outline a method and protocol to achieve this, namely an Action Research (AR) framework for an Animal Assisted Intervention (AAI) in a tertiary health setting. Dogs Offering Support after Stroke (DOgSS) is an AR study at a major tertiary referral hospital. AAI has been reported to improve mood and quality of life for patients in hospitals. Our project objectives included applying for fun...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 6469: Interventions to Facilitate Return to Work after Stroke: A Systematic Review
Conclusion: A lack of large, controlled trials, variations in follow-up time and the definitions of return to work accounted for the large range of employment rates at follow-up. There is limited published high-quality evidence regarding the effectiveness of interventions to promote return to work in working-age survivors of stroke.

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 6188: Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Chronic Stress among Male Caregivers
balenyo Whereas research on caregiving is well documented, less is known about gender inequalities in caregiver stress, coping mechanisms, and health outcomes, all of which may vary by race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. This scoping review investigated racial and ethnic disparities using the Stress Process Model among male caregivers. Several databases were searched including Academic Search Premier, Medline Complete, APA PsycInfo, CINHAL, Google, ProQuest, and Web of Science. Included were peer-reviewed articles in English, published from 1990 to 2022. A total of nine articles fulfilled inclusion criteria. Mos...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 6093: Effects of High-Frequency Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Combined with Motor Learning on Motor Function and Grip Force of the Upper Limbs and Activities of Daily Living in Patients with a Subacute Stroke
Lee Functional paralysis of the upper extremities occurs in >70% of all patients after having a stroke, and >60% showed decreased hand dexterity. A total of 30 patients with a subacute stroke were randomly allocated to either high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with motor learning (n = 14) or sham repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with motor learning (n = 16). High-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with the motor learning group was conducted for 20 min (10 min of high-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimu...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 5958: Education Level and Self-Reported Cardiovascular Disease in Norway & mdash;The Troms & oslash; Study, 1994 & ndash;2016
Conclusions: Norwegian adults with a higher education level were at lower risk of self-reported CVD. The association was present in both genders, with a lower risk observed in women than men. After accounting for lifestyle factors, there was no clear association between education level and self-reported CVD, likely due to covariates acting as mediators.

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 5714: Feasibility and Acceptability of a Remotely Delivered Executive Function Intervention That Combines Computerized Cognitive Training and Metacognitive Strategy Training in Chronic Stroke
oan Toglia Executive dysfunction after stroke is associated with limitations in daily activities and disability. Existing interventions for executive dysfunction show inconsistent transfer to everyday activities and require frequent clinic visits that can be difficult for patients with chronic mobility challenges to access. To address this barrier, we developed a telehealth-based executive function intervention that combines computerized cognitive training and metacognitive strategy. The goal of this study was to describe intervention development and to provide preliminary evidence of feasibility and acceptability in t...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 5566: Multi-City Analysis of the Acute Effect of Polish Smog on Cause-Specific Mortality (EP-PARTICLES Study)
ma Polish smog is a specific type of air pollution present in Eastern Poland, which may cause particularly adverse cardiovascular effects. It is characterized primarily by high concentrations of particulate matter (PM) and different favorable conditions of formation. Our study aimed to assess whether PM and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) have a short-term impact on mortality due to acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and ischemic stroke (IS). The study covered the years 2016–2020, a total of 6 million person-years from five main cities in Eastern Poland. To evaluate the association between air pollution and cause-spec...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 5328: Biological, Psychiatric, Psychosocial, and Cognitive Factors of Poststroke Depression
