Changes in Depressive Symptoms and Incidence of First Stroke Among Middle-Aged and Older US Adults Epidemiology
Conclusions
In this cohort, persistently high depressive symptoms were associated with increased stroke risk. Risk remained elevated even if depressive symptoms remitted over a 2-year period, suggesting cumulative etiologic mechanisms linking depression and stroke.

Meta-Analysis of Potassium Intake and the Risk of Stroke Genetics
ConclusionsOverall, this dose–response meta‐analysis confirms the inverse association between potassium intake and stroke risk, with potassium intake of 90 mmol (≈3500 mg)/day associated with the lowest risk of stroke.

Impact of Atrial Fibrillation on Stroke-Related Healthcare Costs Hypertension
Conclusion
Stroke-related care for IS, HS, and TIA is costly, especially among individuals with AF. Reducing the risk of AF-related stroke is important from both clinical and economic standpoints.

Peripheral Arterial Disease and Risk of Atrial Fibrillation and Stroke: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis Coronary Heart Disease
Conclusions
PAD is associated with an increased risk of AF and stroke in MESA. Potentially, the relationship between PAD and stroke is not mediated by AF.

Dairy Consumption and Risk of Stroke: A Systematic Review and Updated Dose-Response Meta-Analysis of Prospective Cohort Studies Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology
Conclusions
Milk and cheese consumption were inversely associated with stroke risk. Results should be placed in the context of the observed heterogeneity. Future epidemiological studies should provide more details about dairy types, including fat content. In addition, the role of dairy in Asian populations deserves further attention.

Population Attributable Risks of Hypertension and Diabetes for Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke in the Northern Manhattan Study Epidemiology
Conclusions
HTN and diabetes have important effects on the burden of stroke, particularly among those younger than age 80 and Hispanics. Public health campaigns targeted at specific risk factors in specific populations can lead to a greater reduction in CVD.

Long-Term Risk of Stroke in Patients With Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Following Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Cardiovascular Surgery
Conclusions
The long-term risk for stroke after coronary artery bypass grafting was increased in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, compared to patients with no diabetes.

Proteinuria Is an Independent Risk Factor for First Incident Stroke in Adults Under Treatment for Hypertension in China Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease
Conclusions
In adults under treatment for hypertension in China, baseline proteinuria measured by dipstick or quantitative albumin–creatinine ratio, but not reduced eGFR, was found to be an independent risk factor for first incident stroke and ischemic stroke.

The Impact of Acute Kidney Injury on the Long-term Risk of Stroke Kidney in Cardiovascular Disease
Conclusions
The patients who recovered from AKI had a higher incidence of developing incident stroke and mortality than the patients without AKI, and the impact was similar to diabetes. Our results suggest that a public health initiative is needed to enhance postdischarge follow-up of renal function and to control the subsequent incidence of stroke among patients who recover from AKI after dialysis.

Stroke and Bleeding Risk Associated With Antithrombotic Therapy for Patients With Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation in Clinical Practice Health Services and Outcomes Research
Conclusions
Continuation of antithrombotic therapy as well as maintaining an adequate level of TTR is beneficial to prevent strokes while minimizing bleeding events.

A New Risk Scheme to Predict Ischemic Stroke and Other Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation: The ATRIA Study Stroke Risk Score Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology
Conclusions
The ATRIA stroke risk score performed better than existing risk scores, was validated successfully, and showed improvement in predicting severe events, which is of greatest concern. The ATRIA score should improve the antithrombotic decision for patients with AF and should provide a secure foundation for the addition of biomarkers in future prognostic models.

Association Between High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein and Total Stroke by Hypertensive Status Among Men Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology
Conclusions
Elevated hsCRP levels were associated with a greater risk of total stroke, even after adjustment for potential confounders and cardiovascular risk factors. Risk of total stroke was significantly higher among hypertensive men with elevated hsCRP compared with normotensive men with low hsCRP.

Elucidating the Association Between Depressive Symptoms, Coronary Heart Disease, and Stroke in Black and White Adults: The REasons for Geographic And Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) Study Epidemiology
Conclusions
Proximal depressive symptoms were associated with incident fatal and nonfatal stroke and CVD death even after controlling for multiple explanatory factors, further supporting the urgent need for timely management of depressive symptoms.

Consciousness Level and Off-Hour Admission Affect Discharge Outcome of Acute Stroke Patients: A J-ASPECT Study Health Services and Outcomes Research
Conclusions
The well-known off-hour effect might be attributed to the severely ill patient population. Thus, sustained stroke care that is sufficient to treat severely ill patients during off-hours is important.
