ConclusionsThis study documents that a decline in FS precedes incidence of CVD‐related hospitalization by at least 2 years, providing a strong argument for routine preventative assessment of FS among older adults.

Identification of PTCSC3 as a Novel Locus for Large-Vessel Ischemic Stroke: A Genome-Wide Association Study Stroke
Conclusions Our data provide strong support for future studies on the role of PTCSC3 in the pathogenesis of LAA stroke and the association between LAA stroke development and thyroid function. In addition, these findings provide insights into the genetic basis of LAA stroke and identify a novel pathway that might be applicable for future therapeutic intervention.

Consciousness Level and Off-Hour Admission Affect Discharge Outcome of Acute Stroke Patients: A J-ASPECT Study Health Services and Outcomes Research
Conclusions The well-known off-hour effect might be attributed to the severely ill patient population. Thus, sustained stroke care that is sufficient to treat severely ill patients during off-hours is important.

Short-term Changes in Ambient Particulate Matter and Risk of Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Stroke
Conclusions We found that PM2.5 and PM10 are associated with a 1.4% (95% CI 0.9% to 1.9%) and 0.5% (95% CI 0.3% to 0.7%) higher total cerebrovascular disease mortality, respectively, with evidence of inconsistent, nonsignificant associations for hospital admission for total cerebrovascular disease or ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke. Current limited evidence does not suggest an association between PM2.5-10 and cerebrovascular mortality or morbidity. We discuss the potential sources of variability in results across studies, highlight some observations, and identify gaps in literature and make recommendations for future studies.

Pulmonary Embolism in Ischemic Stroke: Clinical Presentation, Risk Factors, and Outcome Stroke
Conclusions In this large cohort study, PE occurred in nearly 1% of AIS patients. PE was more common in patients with severe stroke, history of cancer, previous DVT/PE or acute DVT and associated with lower short- and long-term survival, greater disability, and longer length of stay.
