Abstract 101: Gender Has Differential Effects on Non-Hemorrhagic Stroke Outcomes Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: Men with non-hemorrhagic stroke were more likely to have dyslipidemia and history of coronary artery disease. This, however, did not translate into increased mortality in younger men.Gender appears to have a differential effect on non-hemorrhagic stroke outcomes which warrants future investigation.

Abstract 104: Cost-Effectiveness of Edoxaban vs. Rivaroxaban for Stroke Prevention in Patients with Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation (NVAF) in the US Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: These results showed that once-daily edoxaban (60mg/30mg dose-reduced) regimen is a highly cost-effective treatment relative to rivaroxaban (20mg/15mg dose-reduced) for stroke prevention in NVAF patients.

Abstract 101: Qualitative Evaluation of a State Stroke Registry Session Title: Poster Session I
Objectives: Set within the California Stroke Registry/California Coverdell Program (CSR/CCP) - a stroke-care-related quality improvement (QI) program, this study sought to do as follows: (1) describe the program’s previous prevention efforts (through quarter 1 [Q1], 2015); (2) explore what factors were influential in bringing about this programmatic state; and (3) investigate what changes could occur, in order to usher in a better future state for the program.Methodology: Starting in quarter 2, 2015, a systematic review of twenty-seven CSR/CCP documents preceded the conduct of fourteen key informant interviews. Subse...

Abstract 176: Door to Needle Targets in the Real World: A Dynamic Statistical Tool for Institutional Stroke Code Metrics Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: This simple statistical tool is a novel solution for generating an institution-specific goal DTN based on unique organizational data, experiences, and nuances in order to meet the recommended mean DTN. Additionally, these individualized goals may further motivate stroke teams to carry out more efficient clinical care rather than consistently aiming for DTN values < 60 minutes. The tool presented here is easily adaptable to future changes in recommended target goals and can be seamlessly incorporated into institution-wide systems planning.

Development and Validation of Electronic Quality Measures to Assess Care for Patients With Transient Ischemic Attack and Minor Ischemic Stroke Original Articles
Conclusions— It is feasible to construct valid eQMs for processes of transient ischemic attack and minor ischemic stroke care. Healthcare systems with EHRs should consider using electronic data to evaluate care for their patients with transient ischemic attack and to complement and expand quality measurement programs currently focused on patients with stroke.

Abstract 14: The Influence of Provider Specialty on Anticoagulation Prescription Fills and Stroke Risk in Atrial Fibrillation Patients With History of Cancer Session Title: Poster Session Reception: Young Investigator Award Semi-Finalists
Conclusion: AF patients with cancer were less likely to see a cardiologist, and less likely to fill an anticoagulant prescription than AF patients without cancer. However, cardiology involvement was associated with increased anticoagulant prescription fills and reduced risk of stroke, suggesting a beneficial role for cardiology providers to improve outcomes in AF patients with history of cancer.

Abstract 218: Do mass media campaigns about stroke influence the number of calls to Emergency Medical Services Dispatch Center? Poster Session II
Conclusion: These 2 campaigns had no impact on the amount of calls. Moreeffort should be made on patients’ education and a new strategy to reach target population must be clearly defined.

Abstract 260: Patient Characteristics, In-hospital Mortality and the Use of Comfort-Focused Care among Patients presenting with Acute Ischemic Stroke Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: While comfort-focused care was provided to only 10% of stroke admissions, it occurred in over 80% of all patients who died in-hospital. Early CMO patients received aggressive intervention with IA therapy less often and appear to have had fewer infectious complications, suggesting that poor initial neurologic prognosis and advanced directives may have contributed more than progressive deterioration to the decision to change care goals. Larger prospective studies are needed to better understand the drivers of decision-making in this population, and set realistic expectations about the likely duration of patient s...

Abstract 272: Preliminary Data from RESOLVE (Rapid Evaluation for Stroke Outcomes using Lytics in Vascular Events) Study Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Preliminary findings showed that less than half of the patients and CG felt the education was clear. However additional interviews are planned. Preliminary insights suggest an opportunity to use an individualized risk and benefit decision tool to inform and engage patients and CG regarding treatment decisions. We believe this can be accomplished without increasing the door to needle time in administration of rt-PA.

Improving Quality Measurement for Anticoagulation: Adding International Normalized Ratio Variability to Percent Time in Therapeutic Range Original Articles
Conclusions— Unstable anticoagulation predicts warfarin adverse effects independent of TTR. Moreover, knowledge about anticoagulation stability further stratifies the risk for adverse events at given levels of TTR.

Abstract 100: Influence of Race on Presentation, Treatment, and Outcome Among Patients With Atrial Fibrillation-related Ischemic Stroke Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: Blacks with AF who suffer IS are younger, have a higher burden of risk factors, and more often present with paroxysmal or new onset AF. IS in the setting of AF was associated with significant mortality and morbidity in both Blacks and Whites.

Abstract 304: Developing a Patient Registry for Atrial Fibrillation to Improve The Quality of Stroke Prevention in a Safety Net Institution Session Title: Poster Session III
Conclusions: A baseline assessment of stroke prophylaxis among atrial fibrillation patients in a safety net health system demonstrates nonguideline-concordant anticoagulation use among low-risk patients and suboptimal anticoagulation use among high-risk patients, patterns that could not be explained by HAS-BLED score.

Who Must We Target Now to Minimize Future Cardiovascular Events and Total Mortality?: Lessons From the Surveillance, Prevention and Management of Diabetes Mellitus (SUPREME-DM) Cohort Study Original Articles
Conclusions— To sustain improvements in myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, and mortality, health systems that have successfully focused on care improvement in high-risk adults with DM or CVD must broaden their improvement strategies to target lower risk adults who have not yet developed DM or CVD.
