Abstract 203: Community Based Outpatient Stroke Rehabilitation Program Achieves Excellent Outcomes Including Return to Work, Driving, Improved Blood Pressure Control, and Other Rehabilitation Outcomes Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Participants in our interdisciplinary community-based rehabilitation program demonstrated improvements in stroke knowledge, physical function, blood pressure control, and mood, while also returning to work, driving, and participation in the community. Comparative research and multi-site studies are needed.

Abstract 204: Cross-sectional Survey of Quality of Life and Workload Among Japanese Physicians Working in Stroke Care: The Nationwide Survey of Acute Stroke Care Capacity for Proper Designation of Comprehensive Stroke Center in Japan (J-ASPECT) Study Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: Mental QOL scores of stroke physicians are significantly lower than those of the population norm. Work hours, salary, and numbers of days off are associated with the mental QOL score.

Abstract 205: Improving Door to Needle Time for IV Thrombolysis in Stroke Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Efforts to reduce DNT are effective and create incremental improvement over time. The organization required to lower door to needle time, results in an increase of the number of patients treated. This may be a result of the greater efficiency needed to achieve fast administration of IV tPA, which in turn, improves recognition of stroke patients and efficiency of decision making. Our experience demonstrates that these gains are sustainable.

Abstract 206: Aiming to Improve Stroke Care Continuity with Primary Care Follow-up Appointments Scheduled Prior to Hospital Discharge Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Hospital performance with scheduling primary care follow-up appointments improved significantly; however, only 1 in 4 patients had an appointment scheduled prior to discharge. Case study analysis of missed opportunities may help identify barriers and facilitators associated with access, availability, and awareness that can be addressed in future improvement cycles.

Abstract 221: Outcomes Associated with Warfarin Time in Therapeutic Range Among Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation Patients Treated in an Integrated Healthcare Delivery System in the U.S. Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: NVAF patients with low warfarin TTR, in comparison to those with high warfarin TTR, used more healthcare resources resulting in higher healthcare costs.

Abstract 224: No Difference in Complications or Mortality by Implanted Cardioverter Defibrillator Type in Veterans Enrolled in The Outcomes Among Veterans with Implantable Devices (OVID) Registry Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Unadjusted analyses showed an association between dual chamber ICD and CRT-D devices and risk of non-fatal major events and the composite outcome versus single chamber ICD implantation. This did not persist when adjusted for clinical characteristics and comorbidities, though we are underpowered for small differences. Further study is needed as prior reports may not have adjusted adequately for clinical covariates and lacked validated outcomes.

Abstract 225: Frequency and Assessment of Poor Global Outcome in Patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: In this large, single-center study assessing global outcome after LVAD implantation, we found that about a third of all patients had experienced a poor global outcome at 1 year. While LVAD therapy remains life-saving and the standard of care for many patients with advanced heart failure, these findings could help guide discussions with eligible patients and families. Future work should compare patients’ pre-LVAD expectations with likely outcomes and create risk models to estimate the probability of poorer outcomes for individual patients using pre-procedural factors.

Abstract 234: Comparison of Hospital Length of Stay and Costs between Non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation Patients Treated with Either Apixaban or Warfarin Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: NVAF patients treated with apixaban had significantly shorter hospital LOS and lower index hospitalization costs compared to those treated with warfarin. Costs remained significantly lower for apixaban patients across all CHADS2 scores.

Abstract 243: A Novel Cost Effectiveness Model of Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) for Secondary Prevention in the United States Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: This novel model suggests that combining EPA with statin therapy for secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease in the United States may be cost-saving and appears to be a more compelling intervention than statin monotherapy. The framework of this model provides a starting point for development of microsimulation models as more data become available.

Abstract 245: Cost Effectiveness and Safety of Abbreviated Eptifibatide Infusion in Veterans Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: In this real world cohort of patients undergoing PCI, an abbreviated 2 hour eptifibatide infusion after PCI was safe and had a cost savings of greater than 50% per patient, when compared with a standard 18 hour infusion. This approach is more cost-effective and should be considered in patients undergoing PCI who are not pretreated with dual antiplatelet therapy.

Abstract 246: Potential for Healthy Survivor Bias Among Symptomatic Peripheral Artery Disease Patients with Long Follow-up: Comparing 1 Year Versus 3 Year Post-Index Outcomes Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: A comparative review of findings from these SPAD studies has revealed that the ‘healthy survivor’ bias may have led to an under-estimation of SPAD outcomes in the 1-year pre-/3-year post-index. A replication of the 1-year pre-/3-year post-index using a data source with mortality data is warranted.

Abstract 263: Incidence of Recurrent Cardiovascular Events and Disease Burden Among High-Risk Patients with Hyperlipidemia Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: CV event-related risk and long-term costs are significantly greater among high-risk patients with shorter time intervals between recurrent CV events. Underutilization of LLTs in these patients highlights the need for improving clinical management and treatment options for these patients.
