Abstract 242: Healthcare Resource Utilization and Costs among Patients with Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation using Dabigatran or Warfarin For Stroke Prevention Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Although newly diagnosed, newly treated NVAF patients initiated on dabigatran had higher pharmacy costs than those on warfarin, the total healthcare costs were similar between the two cohorts. In addition, fewer office visits were observed in the dabigatran cohort.

Abstract 244: Anticoagulant Options and Inpatient Costs for Patients with Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: In propensity-matched cohorts of NVAF patients treated with warfarin or rivaroxaban, a TSOAC, our data demonstrated significant index and overall hospital cost reductions associated with the TSOAC strategy.

Abstract 246: Cost-analysis and Clinical Outcomes in Medicare Patients Who Have Received Holter Monitoring Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Repeat monitoring, often of the same type as done initially, frequently did not yield a diagnosis and patients continued to experience clinical events at a substantial healthcare cost. Additional diagnostic paradigms should be explored to improve these patient and system outcomes.

Abstract 249: Economic Outcomes for Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome Managed with Percutaneous Coronary Intervention and Receiving Prasugrel or Ticagrelor: A Retrospective US Hospital Database Analysis Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: Economic outcomes of ACS-PCI pts receiving pras were similar to ticag for the primary population with significant savings in total and medical costs for pts without prior TIA or stroke. These data indicate that ticag has no economic advantage compared with pras in routine clinical practice.

Abstract 257: A Long-Term Comparison of Clinical and Economic Outcomes with Novel Oral Anti- Coagulants Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: While using NOACs in NVAF treatment raises drug costs compared to current practice, it also reduces stroke incidence. Among NOACs, apixaban does so at lower cost, with fewer bleeding events than either dabigatran or rivaroxaban.

Abstract 260: Patient Characteristics, In-hospital Mortality and the Use of Comfort-Focused Care among Patients presenting with Acute Ischemic Stroke Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: While comfort-focused care was provided to only 10% of stroke admissions, it occurred in over 80% of all patients who died in-hospital. Early CMO patients received aggressive intervention with IA therapy less often and appear to have had fewer infectious complications, suggesting that poor initial neurologic prognosis and advanced directives may have contributed more than progressive deterioration to the decision to change care goals. Larger prospective studies are needed to better understand the drivers of decision-making in this population, and set realistic expectations about the likely duration of patient s...

Abstract 261: Applying Clinical Trial Data to Real-World: Apixaban, Dabigatran, and Rivaroxaban Session Title: Poster Session II
CONCLUSIONS: If relative risk reductions from randomized clinical trials persist in the real-world, apixaban would result in the greatest clinical benefit versus warfarin of all NOACs in terms of stroke and major bleeding excluding intracranial hemorrhage events avoided.

Abstract 178: Females with Cardiac Comorbidities Have Worse Outcome Compared to Males Presenting with Unexplained Syncope: An ACAP-SELF Dataset Analysis Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusions: The SELF-pathway for patients with syncope helps identify at-risk subgroups in our patient population. Females with SELF-2 criteria (Structural heart disease, abnormal ECG, arrhythmia) had significantly worse long-term outcome compared to males regardless of manner of syncopal presentation.

Abstract 185: The Sex Gap among Cardiovascular Disease Encounters in India Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: Untreated or poorly managed AF and CAD can lead to myocardial infarction, stroke and death. A greater awareness of gender differences in AF and CAD, and the impact of factors that are unique to each gender, would contribute to more effective management and better long-term outcomes.Though genetic differences may contribute to greater cardiovascular disease prevalence in men, PINNACLE India’s sizable difference in male and female representation could be indicative of cultural or economic issues limiting access to specialty care for females. Implementing dedicated efforts to understand and reduce gaps in ac...

Abstract 207: Gender Differences in Pre-Event Health Status of Young Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction: Insights from the VIRGO Study Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: Young women with an AMI have poorer health status prior to their event than men. This suggests worse symptom control prior to an AMI and underscores the need to adjust for baseline health status in evaluations of gender-based disparities in young AMI patients.

Abstract 215: Use of Chronic Medications among Patients with Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusion: Patients with NVAF typically have other chronic conditions and a large proportion of these patients may be on treatment regimens that require taking medications more than once per day.

Abstract 223: Patients With Cardiac Comorbidities Carry Worse Outcome as Identified by Our SELF Risk Stratification Pathway: An ACAP-SELF Syncope Dataset Analysis Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Using the SELF-pathway for patients presenting with syncope effectively identifies high risk patients who merit hospitalization and close follow-up post-discharge. These include patients with structural heart disease, abnormal EKG and abnormal telemetry, as well as patients with diabetes, CAD and CHF. This has important implications for the evaluation of a common disease that poses a significant economic burden on healthcare systems.

Abstract 232: Comparison of Different Management Strategies for Acute Myocardial Infarction: A Multivariable Network Meta-analysis Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Primary PCI is the preferred approach for treatment of STEMI. Our analysis suggests that a pharmacoinvasive approach may be more effective and safer as compared to facilitated PCI and thrombolytic therapy.

Abstract 236: Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy: Comparing Exercise Tolerance, Cardiac Remodeling, Clinical and Genetic Data Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: OSA occurs frequently in HCM and is associated with decreased exercise tolerance, worse hemodynamics, poor outcome as well as increased LV mass, which may be attenuated by therapy. OSA is an important and modifiable risk factor in HCM. Prospective evaluation utilizing PSG based diagnosis and positive pressure therapy is warranted.
