Chronic Stroke Outcome Measures for Motor Function Intervention Trials: Expert Panel Recommendations Original Articles
Conclusions— The panel recommends that the Fugl-Meyer Upper and Lower Extremity scales be used as primary outcomes in intervention trials targeting motor function in populations with chronic stroke. The other 6 measures are recommended as secondary outcomes.

Patient Characteristics and Outcomes After Hemorrhagic Stroke in Pregnancy Original Articles
Conclusions— Pregnant HS patients are younger and have fewer risk factors than their nonpregnant counterparts, and risk-adjusted in-hospital mortality is lower. Our findings suggest possible differences in underlying disease pathophysiology and challenges to identifying at-risk patients.

Electronic Stroke CarePath: Integrated Approach to Stroke Care Innovations in Care
We describe the development, implementation, and outcomes of the first 2 years of the Electronic Stroke CarePath, an initiative developed for management of ischemic stroke patients in an effort to improve efficiency and quality of care for patients. The CarePath consists of care pathways for ischemic stroke that are integrated within the electronic health record. Patient-reported outcomes are collected using an external software platform. Documentation tools, order sets, and clinical decision support were designed to improve efficiency, optimize process measure adherence, and produce clinical data as a byproduct of care th...

Who Must We Target Now to Minimize Future Cardiovascular Events and Total Mortality?: Lessons From the Surveillance, Prevention and Management of Diabetes Mellitus (SUPREME-DM) Cohort Study Original Articles
Conclusions— To sustain improvements in myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, and mortality, health systems that have successfully focused on care improvement in high-risk adults with DM or CVD must broaden their improvement strategies to target lower risk adults who have not yet developed DM or CVD.

Clinical Prediction Models for Cardiovascular Disease: Tufts Predictive Analytics and Comparative Effectiveness Clinical Prediction Model Database Original Articles
Conclusions— There is an abundance of CPMs available for a wide assortment of cardiovascular disease conditions, with substantial redundancy in the literature. The comparative performance of these models, the consistency of effects and risk estimates across models and the actual and potential clinical impact of this body of literature is poorly understood.

Novel Oral Anticoagulant Use Among Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Hospitalized With Ischemic Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack Original Articles
Conclusions— NOACs have had modest but growing uptake over time among atrial fibrillation patients hospitalized with stroke or transient ischemic attack and are prescribed to patients with lower stroke risk compared with warfarin.

Intracranial Hemorrhage After Ischemic Stroke: Incidence, Time Trends, and Predictors in a Swedish Nationwide Cohort of 196 765 Patients Original Articles
Conclusions— The incidence of ICrH within 1 year after ischemic stroke was 2% per year at risk, about 15 times higher compared with the reference population. Over the study period, ICrH risk increased within the first 30 days but decreased thereafter. Previous ICrH, thrombolysis, and male sex affected the risk, whereas an increased use of antithrombotic treatments and statins did not.

Incidence and Predictors of Cognitive Decline in Patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices Original Articles
Conclusions— Cognitive decline occurs commonly in patients in the year after LVAD and is associated with older age and destination therapy. These results could have important implications for patient selection and improved communication of risks before LVAD implantation. Additional studies are needed to explore the association between cognitive decline and subsequent stroke, health status, and mortality in patients after LVAD.

Abstract 1: Incidence and Predictors of Cognitive Decline in Patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices Session Title: Concurrent Session IB: Oral Abstracts - QCOR Young Investigator Awards
Conclusion: In a large LVAD registry, cognitive decline occurred in over a quarter of patients in the year after LVAD and was associated with older age, renal disease, higher baseline cognitive function, and more stable heart failure at implant. These results define the frequency of an important adverse event and provide new insights regarding outcomes after LVAD. Future studies are needed to explore the association of transient and permanent cognitive decline with subsequent stroke, health status, and mortality in patients after LVAD placement.

Abstract 11: Compliance With Risk Factor Optimization and Medical Therapy in Patients With Peripheral Vascular Disease (Peripheral Artery and Ischemic Cerebrovascular Disease) Compared to Ischemic Heart Disease. Session Title: Concurrent Session IIB: Oral Abstracts - Quality of Care
Conclusions: Compliance with OMT was low in all patients. Patients with PAD or ICVD were less likely to receive OMT compared with IHD. Our results suggest potential for improvement in OMT for all CVD patients especially those with PAD and ICVD.
