Backgrounds: Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) evaluated by Cornell product in electrocardiogram predicted future stroke events greater than LVH by Sokolow-Lyon voltage. Therefore, we evaluated whether Cornell product was related to regional myocardial wall motion greater than Sokolow-Lyon voltage.Methods: We enrolled 288 hypertensive patients who were performed echocardiography for evaluating target organ damage. We examined the association of hypertensive target organ damage with longitudinal changes in brain structure and function within the Second Manifestations of Arterial Disease–Magnetic Resonance (SMART-MR) study. In conclusion, an intensive treatment aimed to lower systolic BP<130 mm Hg reduced left ventricular hypertrophy and improved clinical outcomes to a similar extent in patients with hypertension and without established cardiovascular disease.

Conclusions: A maternal history of hypertension is a predictor of incident AF. For persons with a maternal history of hypertension, BP control would be under normal BP for AF prevention.
