Effects of two different types of ankle-foot orthoses on gait outcomes in patients with subacute stroke: a randomized crossover trial.
CONCLUSIONS: No difference between DA AFO and PLS AFO was found on measures of gait endurance, symmetry, and velocity at baseline or after practice. With practice over time, participants improved in gait endurance and velocity regardless of AFO type.

Biopsychosocial intervention for stroke carers (BISC): results of a feasibility randomised controlled trial and nested qualitative interview study.
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that a biopsychosocial intervention was acceptable to carers and can be delivered in group and one-to-one formats. Timing of approach and mode of intervention delivery is critical and requires tailoring to the carers individual needs.

The effects of a dialogue-based intervention to promote psychosocial well-being after stroke: a randomized controlled trial.
CONCLUSION: The results of this trial did not demonstrate lower levels of emotional distress and anxiety or higher levels of health-related quality of life in the intervention group (dialogue-based intervention) as compared to the control group (usual care) at 12 months post-stroke.

The effectiveness of extracorporeal shock wave therapy for improving upper limb spasticity and functionality in stroke patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
CONCLUSION: The extracorporeal shock wave therapy is effective for reducing upper limb spasticity. Adding it to conventional therapy provides an additional benefit.

Factors influencing the amount of therapy received during inpatient stroke care: an analysis of data from the UK Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme.
CONCLUSION: The amount of stroke therapy is associated with unmodifiable patient-related characteristics and modifiable organizational factors in that more therapy was associated with higher therapy and nurse staffing levels, specialist stroke rehabilitation services, timely therapy assessments, and the presence of weekend and early discharge services.

Recruitment challenges in stroke rehabilitation randomized controlled trials: a qualitative exploration of trialists' perspectives using Framework analysis.
CONCLUSION: Stroke rehabilitation trialists described recruitment difficulties which may be related to their experiential based recruitment decision making, a lack of understanding of how best to incentivize and maintain relationships with recruiters and unrealistic bureaucratic expectations both in terms of gaining funding and research governance.

Can inspiratory muscle training benefit patients after stroke? A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Association of subsequent falls with evidence of dual-task interference while walking in community-dwelling individuals after stroke.
CONCLUSION: The degree of mobility interference during dual-task obstacle-crossing was the most effective in predicting falls among all the single-task and dual-task walking measure parameters tested. This simple dual-task walking assessment has potential clinical utility in identifying people post stroke at high risk of future falls.

Hard return: the development and transformation process of social participation in stroke survivors; a qualitative study and initial theory.
CONCLUSION: This study has identified the development process of social participation in stroke survivors and "hard-return" suggests not only the tough process but also unsatisfactory results. Interventions targeted process ingredients seem to be potentially promising to improve stroke survivors' social function outcomes.

Six-month reviews for stroke survivors: a study of the modified Greater Manchester Stroke Assessment Tool with care home residents.
CONCLUSION: The modified GM-SAT provides a feasible means of conducting six-month reviews for stroke survivors in care homes and helps identify important needs. Further modifications have enhanced acceptability. Full implementation into practice requires staff training and organizational changes.
