Emergency decompressive surgery in patients with transtentorial brain herniation and pupillary abnormalities: the importance of improved pupillary response after osmotherapy and surgery
CONCLUSIONS: With aggressive medical and surgical management, patients with transtentorial brain herniation, including those with bilaterally fixed and dilated pupils, may have considerable rates of survival and functional recovery. Optimizing maximum resection of glioblastoma: Raman spectroscopy versus 5-aminolevulinic acid
CONCLUSIONS: According to the study data, RS is capable of detecting tumor-infiltrated brain with higher sensitivity but lower specificity than the current standard of 5-ALA. The impact of high functional connectivity network hub resection on language task performance in adult low- and high-grade glioma.
CONCLUSIONS: Imaginary coherence measures of functional connectivity using MEG are able to identify HFC network sites within and around low- and high-grade gliomas. Removal of IES-negative HFC sites results in early transient postoperative decline in AN and SYN, which resolved by 3 months in all patients without stroke or early tumor progression. Measures of functional connectivity may therefore be a useful means of counseling patients about postoperative risk and assist with preoperative surgical planning. BIO alleviates inflammation through inhibition of GSK-3 β in a rat model of intracerebral hemorrhage.

MicroRNA-195 protection against focal cerebral ischemia by targeting CX3CR1.
CONCLUSIONSTaken together, these findings suggest that miR-195 promotes neuronal cell survival against chronic cerebral ischemic damage by inhibiting CX3CR1-mediated neuroinflammation. This indicates that miR-195 may represent a novel target that regulates neuroinflammation and brain injury, thus offering a new treatment strategy for cerebral ischemic disorders. Operative and consultative proportions of neurosurgical disease worldwide: estimation from the surgeon perspective.
CONCLUSIONS With a high level of confidence and strong concordance, neurosurgeons estimated that the vast majority of patients with central nervous system tumors, hydrocephalus, or neural tube defects mandate neurosurgical involvement. A significant proportion of other common neurological diseases, such as traumatic brain and spinal injury, vascular anomalies, and degenerative spine disease, demand the attention of a neurosurgeon-whether via operative intervention or expert counsel. CONCLUSIONS Each year, more than 5 million individuals suffering from treatable neurosurgical conditions will never undergo therapeutic surgical intervention. Populations in Africa and Southeast Asia, where the proportion of neurosurgeons to neurosurgical disease is critically low, are especially at risk. Increasing access to essential neurosurgical care in low- and middle-income countries via neurosurgical workforce expansion as part of surgical system strengthening is necessary to prevent severe disability and death for millions with neurological disease. Upregulation of miR-216a exerts neuroprotective effects against ischemic injury through negatively regulating JAK2/STAT3-involved apoptosis and inflammatory pathways.

Magnetic resonance susceptibility weighted imaging in neurosurgery: current applications and future perspectives.
Abstract Susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) is a relatively new imaging technique. Its high sensitivity to hemorrhagic components and ability to depict microvasculature by means of susceptibility effects within the veins allow for the accurate detection, grading, and monitoring of brain tumors. This imaging modality can also detect changes in blood flow to monitor stroke recovery and reveal specific subtypes of vascular malformations.
