Consumer-Based Physical Activity Monitor as a Practical Way to Measure Walking Intensity During Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation Brief Report

Predictors and Biomarkers of Treatment Gains in a Clinical Stroke Trial Targeting the Lower Extremity Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— A multimodal model incorporating behavioral and fMRI measures best predicted treatment-induced changes in gait velocity in a clinical trial setting. Results also suggest potential use of fMRI measures as biomarkers of treatment gains.

Dalfampridine Improves Sensorimotor Function in Rats With Chronic Deficits After Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion Basic Sciences
Conclusions— Dalfampridine improves sensorimotor function in the rat permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion model. Dalfampridine extended-release tablets (prolonged release fampridine outside the United States) are used to improve walking in patients with multiple sclerosis, and these preclinical data provide a strong rationale for examining the potential of dalfampridine to treat chronic stable deficits in stroke patients. Foot Drop Stimulation Versus Ankle Foot Orthosis After Stroke: 30-Week Outcomes Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Using either an FDS or an AFO for 30 weeks yielded clinically and statistically significant improvements in gait speed and other functional outcomes. User satisfaction was higher in the FDS group. Although both groups did receive intervention, this large clinical trial provides evidence that FDS or AFO with initial physical therapy sessions can provide a significant and clinically meaningful benefit even years after stroke.
