Bioinformatics analysis of carotid vulnerable plaques associated with the SARS-CoV-2 Pattern
Gene. 2023 Aug 31:147754. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2023.147754. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe rupture of carotid artery vulnerable plaque plays a critical role in ischemic stroke, and the widely spread new coronavirus in recent years plays a certain role in the development of human carotid artery vulnerable plaque, we screened out 27 differential expression genes (DEGs) of stable plaque and vulnerable plaque associated with the new coronavirus. Through the construction of the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network, the Cathepsin B (CTSB) and Niemann-Pick Disease Type 2 (NPC2) were identified as crucial expression genes, ...

Polymorphisms of TRIB1 Genes for Coronary Artery Disease and Stroke Risk: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The rs2954029 A allele was significantly associated with an increased risk of CAD and stroke, according to the present meta-analysis. However, the association of rs17321515 polymorphism with susceptibility to CAD and stroke has not been found in this study.PMID:37414350 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2023.147613

A comprehensive meta-analysis comprising 149 case-control studies to investigate the association between IL-6 gene rs1800795 polymorphism and multiple disease risk
CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis provided strong evidence for the association between IL-6 gene rs1800795 polymorphism and multiple disease risks. The IL-6 gene could be a useful prognostic biomarker for CAD, inflammatory disease, ischemic stroke, and rheumatoid arthritis.PMID:36736866 | DOI:10.1016/j.gene.2023.147234

Worst spasticity in patients post-stroke associated with mnsod ala16val polymorphism and interleukin-1 β
Gene. 2022 Sep 10:146880. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2022.146880. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe MnSOD Ala16Val single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) has shown to be associated to risk factors of several metabolic and vascular diseases. However, little is known about interaction between MnSOD Ala16Val SNP in stroke, a frequent neurologic disease that involves clinic manifestations such as motor deficits and spasticity. In this sense, we decided to investigate the relationship between MnSOD Ala16Val SNP with spasticity in stroke and also its influence on interleukin levels, BDNF, and glycolipid parameters. Eighty post-stroke sub...

Immunoregulation of Ghrelin in neurocognitive sequelae associated with COVID-19: an in silico investigation
In this study, we explored, by bioinformatics approaches, the interaction between the multiple inflammatory agents involved in SARS-CoV-2 and Ghrelin (Ghre) together with its receptor GHSR-1A, which are described as anti-inflammatory mediators, in order to investigate what could trigger the hyper-inflammatory response in some SARS-CoV-2 patients. In our analysis, we found several interactions of Ghre and GHSR-1A with SARS-CoV-2 interacting human genes. We observed a correlation between Ghre, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 ACE2, toll-like receptors 9 (TLR9), and Acidic chitinase (CHIA), whereas its receptor GHSR-1A interac...

Revealing new therapeutic opportunities in hypertension through network-driven integrative genetic analysis and drug target prediction approach
Gene. 2021 Jul 19:145856. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2021.145856. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEpidemiological studies have established that untreated hypertension (HTN) is a major independent risk factor for developing cardiovascular diseases (CVD), stroke, renal failure, and other conditions. Several important studies have been published to prevent and manage HTN; however, antihypertensive agents' optimal choice remains controversial. Therefore, the present study is undertaken to update our knowledge in the primary treatment of HTN, specifically in the setting of other three important diseases. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are remarkabl...
