Relation of Myocardial Work Indexes and Forward Flow Reserve in Patients With Significant Secondary Mitral Regurgitation Undergoing Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair
Left ventricular (LV) myocardial work (LVMW) indexes have shown incremental value over LV ejection fraction and were found to have prognostic significance in patients with secondary mitral regurgitation. We therefore aimed to investigate the association between LVMW indexes and forward flow reserve in patients with secondary mitral regurgitation, treated with transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER). LVMW indexes were evaluated at baseline and forward stroke volume index (FSVI) was evaluated at baseline and 6-month follow-up after TEER.

Impact of Ventricular Stroke Work Indices on Mortality in Heart Failure Patients after Percutaneous Mitral Valve Repair
Transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVR) using the MitraClip system (Abbott Vascular, Abbott Park, Illinois) has emerged as an effective treatment option for surgical high-risk patients with severe functional mitral regurgitation (MR) and chronic heart failure (CHF)1-9. However, several predictors of worse prognosis in patients treated by TMVR have been identified, e.g. high levels of NT-proBNP, New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class IV prior to TMVR and a severely impaired left and right heart function5,8,10-13.

Changes in Left Atrial Function after Transcutaneous Mitral Valve Repair
Left atrial (LA) reverse remodeling occurs after transcatheter mitral valve repair, but additional data are needed about changes in LA function. Changes in LA stiffness in patients undergoing MitraClip were evaluated. Baseline, procedural and 30 day follow up clinical and imaging data of patients undergoing MitraClip were reviewed. LA operating chamber stiffness was calculated as ratio of systolic change in LA pressure to LA systolic strain and to stroke volume. Matched pre and post procedure LA strain analysis was performed in 35 patients, 21 with primary and 14 with functional MR.

Initial Experience With a Novel Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Exclusion Device in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation, Increased Stroke Risk, and Contraindications to Anticoagulation
Atrial fibrillation (AF) increases by fivefold a patient's risk for thromboembolic stroke. The main source of emboli in AF is the left atrial appendage (LAA). Therefore, LAA closure could reduce the risk for thromboembolic events in AF. The investigators report the first United States experience with a novel percutaneous LAA closure device, the Lariat snare device, and its outcomes in 21 patients with AF, CHADS2 scores ≥2, and contraindications to anticoagulation.
